'81 honda cm400 brakes

I am trying to get the master cylinder on my front brakes apart to
clean it or replace it, but I can not seem to get the master cylinder
out. I have manual but that isn't helping any. Can someone give me a
quick how too. Thanks
There's a snap ring holding the piston assembly in the bore, you need
a snap ring pliers to remove it. First take off the rubber dust boot
that goes over the master cylinder piston shaft and clean the gunk out
of there, then you'll be able to see the snap ring and remove it.
Many snap-ring pliers can't reach the ring in many VJ bikes. I know
that Snap-On, Craftsman, Husky and several others won't reach in my XS750.

If you need a pair that WILL reach, MikesXS.com sells a set that will do
the job for $9.
This is why experienced mechanics frequently have many different
instances of a particular tool. Most of the smaller snap-ring pliers
with interchangeable tips will have a set of angled tips that will work
in this case. When you really need a snap-ring pliers that will get
the job done it's going to be a non-adjustable one with high quality
jaws and non-replaceable tips, for jobs such as fork seal replacement.
