LPG

While the little Rat is to be praised for offering the wage slaves $2000
to convert to LPG isnt it a fact that the LR intends to jack up the
price of LPG to equal that of ULP within a few years ?
So we'll be worse off by converting to LPG :-(
B.
My understanding is that there is to be an excise on LPG, but it won't
bring it anywhere near the cost of petrol. I believe it will bring the
running costs of my LPG 4WD campervan up to about the same as my 1000cc
Motorcycle.
Keep believing that.....
Yeah, a top end rebuild on the camper would probably be cheaper :)

Hoping not to need that any time soon. The 2,4L Mitsubishi engine was
designed to be used with LPG as well as petrol, and this one has an
after-market upper-cylinder lubrication system added.

But yes, I suspect it might be cheaper on the van than the bike.

Oh and yeah, my bad. When I wrote "running costs" I should have written
"fuel costs per 100 Km".
Advice from an inside source at Santos has told me they are having
trouble keeping up with local supply at present, and when the China
deal goes through, and millions of litres are being exported offshore
to help build the Chinese economy, the price here will fluctuate and
skyrocket with the world market just like petrol.
The price of LPG is already artificially inflated because it is linked
to world parity pricing and has been for 15 years. If you'd paid
attention you would know that it has "fluctuated and sky-rocketed" just
like petrol.

This is the problem with band aid fixes - it doesn't solve the
problems, it just covers them up for a while.
Why? Get dual and use both!
I've never seen a dual fuel conversion that runs 'well', I've seen good
ones that run 'ok'.

Straight LPG conversions done properly run well but that can be a pain
as not all garages actually stock LPG (particuarly out here in the country).
If everyone converted tomorrow the govt.would get no excise
bet it would go on before 8 years
it still gets massive tax on LPG though
the chinese buy it for 6 cents...
You're confusing taxes with profit, but, yes, just because we're making
*some* money off the Chinese doesn't mean we couldn't be making a whole
lot more...
