Another contest nobody wants to win - concussions

How many serious concussions have you had?
One. There was alcohol involved, but only a lot.
And nothing with a motor.

20 in 1977.
Don't remember what year it was, but probably mid 80s.
One as far as I know. Wrote about it here in RMD.
Search "2004 sux" to read about it. It was 3 months
after being diagnosed with blood clots in my lungs.
2004 was not a good year for me. Neither was 2006!

In 1977 I was 20 and working for the U.S. Navy. Drinking
8.5cent San Miguel beers and renting $3 hoo... umm never mind.

No serious ones that I can remember, and only one "minor" one comes to
Well there you go!. Me either.

Go fast. Take chances.

mind. I second guessed myself when I came upon a water bar more
quickly than I was comfortable with. Actually, I jumped the first one
just fine, but landed right at the base of the next one. Another jump
probably would've gone just fine, but for some reason I decided to try
and slow down. I ended up augering into a big rock wall on the side of
the trail. Fortunately, I used my head to scrub off speed.

7 in 77

I count three.
-One riding a bicycle off a picnic table landing head first on a flagstone
patio. ~1977
We used to do this all the time in our mid-teens (16-17), but what
I must be from some parallel universe, because in this one,
no one seems to think there's anything wrong with teenagers
routinely landing head-first on flagstone patios.
That one was the only one where I lost consciousness. What a rush, man.

were you in '77, like 11... 12?
I would have been 16 in '77. That can't be right. Perhaps it was '76...
Wish You Were Here was brand new...
Hmmmm... 1975
I was 14.

To the best of my knowledge I've never had a concussion.

-One punching my whole face through *thick* icy crust, after a violent
highside, on a surprise ungroomed glazed border section of a double diamond
ski slope taken at catch-the-last-lift speed. ~1983
-One getting divorced. 2003
3 and one fractured skull! Could be my problem!

Only one. It was at Clear Creek. I was hauling anus downhill and
jumping waterbars on my 2000 GasGas EC300 chasing Phil Douglas. I saw
him jump the water bar about 50 yards ahead of me and figured I was
safe to do so as well. Apparently I was either going too fast or too
slow and landed front wheel first on a big rock. I remember getting
up very slow as the next riders in our group arrived. I also remember
asking if a storm was coming in because of all the fog. I tried to
ride back to the truck, but was unable to go more than 50 yards before
the fog got too thick. Phil drove out in his little 1980??? Dodge
(Mitsubishi) 4 cylinder and hauled me and my bike out of the hills.
That was the end of my custom painted Arai.
