OT: Paging the audio peepers - TV without earphone jack
|
I've come to terms that my 32" Samsung CRT HDTV upstairs doesn't have
an earphone socket on it. Why doesn't it have one is beyond me. I
think pretty much every TV since the beginning to time has one, but
not this one. I even checked in the manual in case I'd missed it and
it confims it. No earphone socket.
I've got goodies such as an Xbox 360 plugged into it and when I want
to play games late at night/early in t'marnin I do it at low volume so
as not to upset the neighbours but it's obviously difficult to hear
which doesn't help.
I had a look at the "Joytech Contol Center 540C"
hoping that the port on the front was an earphone socket but no, a
composite/S-Video in. It seems pretty much all singing all dancing in
other ways, including excessive quantities of S-Video and Component
inputs.
I therefore need another option.
The 360 is plugged into the TV via Component so it does 1080i HD and
there is therefore a left & right phono cable plugged into the back of
the set.
I'm thinking this: I have my PC a few feet away from t'telly which has
the output through a Hi-Fi/Amp which in I plug my earphones into. Do
you know of a ready-made cable which will have a 2 female phono ends
to go into the male phono ends from the 360's component cable which
leads on to 2 male phono ends to plug into the telly. There will need
to be a duplicate set of male phono ends to go into the back of the
amp.
In summary: I need a 2xFemale phono cable which leads to 4xMale phono
ends... or something else. Any ideas?

I think I'll stick with my Bose QuietComfort 2 Acoustic Noise
Cancelling Headphones, available for only £225 from you local Bose
shop.

Assuming your hifi amp has a tape loop that isn't already in use you
could wire the Xbox into the Amp's AUX, then use the tape out line back
into the TV, with the tape source dial set to AUX, obviously.
No degradation of splitting signals that way.

It doesn't seem to do that. Another option would be to run the 2x
male phono leads ino 2x female phono leads which go into a microphone
jack, stick it into the line in/mic in port on Mr. Computer, which
would then work as a monitor outputting the signal to the amp.
Or Samsung could stick a earphone socket on their effing telly.
