North Wales Plod ...
According to MCN, and some local press, Brunstrom is that much against
"dangerous motorcycles" he's considering "disbanding" the motorcycle section
of his force.
In the local papers lately he's been trying to drum up support for horse
mounted patrol unit and today the Beeb are reporting
that they're now having electric bikes ... LOL the guy's a star.
I seem to recall an electric powered motorcycle based on a Gilera GFR
being made to go surprisingly quickly. Can't find a web-search link though.
prob not it, but 90kmh is impressive for battery power
"The 4 kW DC motor is expected to accelerate almost as fast as a 250cc bike
and travel at speeds of up to 90 km per hour."
They could have chosen a much lighter chassis than a GSXR400s.
For about 2 minutes?
It's North Wales - they can coast downhill from any police station.
I'd love to hear the sirens though.
NEEEE NAAW NEee

Hmm ... Powered Vehicle operating on the Queen's Highway
without an MOT, Road Tax and Insurance? Surely they all
need to be banged up right now?
Police officers using a vehicle for police business are exempt from the
requirement to be insured by the RTA.
Not sure about tax and test, but I wouldn't be surprised to find they're
not legal requirements >either.
It used to be that 'Crown' vehicles - Post Office vans, Ambulances,
Plodmobiles etc were all exempt from road tax, insewerance and the like...
But that went out in the 70s.
Hmmm. We got new tax discs on our fire engines recetly. Must have a
look tonight and see how much.
I'll bet the Old Bill in Wrexham are cringing everytime their PR Guru's
open their gobs -
Our crack team the 'Dambusters' are equiped with ... electric bicycles
which can (quote) 'catch anything' - because they've a top speed of 15
mph!
Couldn't even catch someone on a human powered bicycle...
- Priceless. Worthy of the (self-proclaimed) Mad Mullah of the Traffic
Talliban himself.
not legal requirements either.
I suspect they're exempt, like the Sinclair C5 was.
Less than 200 W, slower than 15 mph, exempt; rider must be over 14.
Electric bicycles don't need tax nor MoT and I think even insurance is
optional. Minimum legal age for riding is 14. Max weight 40gk, max
speed under leccy power 15mph, max power output 200w.
They're electric so they don't attract road tax and they're brand new so I
seriously doubt an MOT is needed. I doubt there's a requirement to insure
them either.
The scooter-boys will make mincemeat of them.
