OT: Caravans

To buy or not to buy?
Not.

Unless you wish to become a road-going pariah, dragging your road-louse
^^^^^^^^
Glad to see someone else uses this expression..

around at the head of a line of vehicles, all of whom hate you and wish
you would die.
That is the question.
Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer the slings and arrows
of outraged motorists...

Depends how often you're going to use it.
What with all the extra fuel you will use,
simple economics suggeest you stay at a B&B instead.
Not. Definitely.
Have you heard about the big, strong man? (What man?)
He lives in a caravan...

It took me a long while to figure out that Big Brother
Sylvest lives in a mobile home. Around here, a "caravan"
is a line of camels loaded up with trade goods:

Away, for we are ready to a man!
Our camels sniff the evening and are glad.
Lead on, O Master of the Caravan

What to watch for? About £500 squids to spend.
Got a 2 berth here in the West Midlands with awning that you can have
for £400
That's a trailer that is.
Assassination attempts.
A tent.

You don't get much caravan for 500 squids, trust me on this.

When I was a family we used to do the camping bit, the best thing we
ever had was 2 grands worth of brand spanking new trailer tent.
Thanks for other tips...
£500 quid will get you a banger with woodworm & a rotten timber frame,
at least one seized brake and a collapsed floor. I doubt very much
you'll get a composite construction caravan for that money.

- changed my mind. Having just had a quick look at ebay, there's a Monza
2 birth currently going for 500 (item 180105924563), so perhaps I'm
wrong. OK, so look for plastic windows not glass (glass was illegal in
touring vans after around 1980), and composite construction (drum your
fingers on the sides - if it's feels solid it's probably comp, if it
drums it's likely timber frame. Composite has less timber to rot.

Check inside along the roof seams, pressing gently either side - if it's
soft it's rotten.

Tug on the grab handles front and back - they should feel solid. If
there's any 'give' the timber's probably rotten behind. If they come
off in your hand, it's definitely rotten.

Don't buy from a pikey.

(I spent a couple of years buying & selling those things, hence the nick).
