OT: Security cams + DVD recorders
|
I've got a pikey security camera with a PIR sensor that activates
the AV switch on (some?) TVs, via SCART, to switch the TV picture to the
camera if the PIR is triggered.
Are there any DVD recorders that use the same signal to resume/pause
recording? Rope? The motion-detector software I've got with my USB frame-
grabber leaves a bit to be desired, and takes up a significant chunk (~20%)
of my seti-crunching time.

Yes, most of the CCTV DVR systems will accept i/o triggers - but...
They aren't cheap. The cheapest one our supplier has costs us around £175
excluding a HDD, £232 incl. 80Gb. They don't have LAN capability either.
Files are copied from them using compact flash card.
They (probably) won't accept input from your pikey-cam, unless you can strip
off the scart plug and identify which wires carry video/audio, i/o, power?
Another option is a proper DVR card in your PC. I've just checked my home
system and it shows 120hrs idle time, 9hrs for the card, so < 10% of cpu time
using motion detect, but it can also be configured to trigger on I/O using
PIR if needed (but the motion detect is tweakable, so PIR isn't really
necessary.
Cheaper - a 4 channel entry-level card costs us around £80 including
software. still won't accept your pikey-cam though.

Which was part of Ivans original problem with using his USB frame
grabber.
