Paging Lozzo

Ebay 120115008517

Probably too small to have been of interest when they were about, but is
this the same as the UK spec? TOG seems to think that the one we got was
based on the 50 as opposed to the foreign one based on the 125.

My memory is failing me.
TOG's right. Our model was based on the same chassis as the RD50. Early
80s were aircooled and then went water-cooled. I've never seen an 80 in
that style of chassis before, it does look identical to our 125 model.
That's more or less exactly what I told him, but I reckoned he should
double-check with you, because I'd never seen this sleeved-down version
either.
They're the German "sixteener special", built to comply with a slight
oddity in German licensing law back then - basically at 16 you could
take a test that allowed you to ride bikes up to 80cc which could do a
maximum of 80km/h. A lot of people in rural areas only had this license
or it's predecessor so there was a ready market there even amongst
grown-ups.
