ot:google in Russian by default?
|
Strange thing - if I go to groups.web-search.com using Firefox it displays
all the prompts, links etc in Russian (I think). I don't think it is my
web-search preferences. The other thing is it takes me straight to a page
with a list of groups to which I have subscribed or searched before
rather than the default entry page.
If I go to groups.web-search.co.uk it is all as expected, in English and the
regular entry page.

Sounds like you have an odd cookie for web-search.com
Delete the web-search* cookies from your cookie folder and see if that
helps.
Or click on whatever the Russian for "Sign out" is...
|
Cookie deletion sorted it.
|
You might want to consider why your computer had defaulted to russian
BTW.
|
Now that may remain a mystery. It was OK using MS IE and it was only
using Firefox that I had this.
Odd but solved now so thanks.

.ru trojan/keylogger, I expect.
Jeremy, you might want to check your online bank account...

With web-search it's often were your network hits the internet. On of my
clients has their proxy in Germany so whenever I'm on site I have to
remember to go to .co.uk rather than .com otherwise web-search sends me to
.de
|
Ditto - I have to put in .co.uk as .com redirects to .fr - it's a
pain, but not nearly so much of a pain as all the .fr-targetting
|
Yeah, it redirects me to .ch, which I always assumed to be based on
the IP address. Not sure quite how they (IPs) work, but presumably
yours would be listed as Froggy despite physically being in the UK?

advertising I get served by "intelligent" ad delivery systems on sites
like The Register etc.
|
Oddly, the only 'intelligent' advertising I get assumes I'm in Palo
Alto, Ca, which is one of our smaller sites (where I was a coupla
weeks back).
