CBR600f. Are they any good?
|
I am going looking at a 2005 CBR600F for a friend. Does anyone know of any
weak points or things I should be on the look out for?
Its going to be his first bike so its not worth paying the extra to get the
RR version. I have advised him that he will drop it and he would be better
with a naked one to start off with but he won't listen.
|
why will he drop the first 'proper' bike?
took me 3 bikes before I dropped one fnar fnar
|
And that was at 0 mph on a car ferry?

I did that on this TT trip.
it was assisted by being reversed into by Andy.
the 2nd drop the next day wasn't his fault though.

They're solid. Camchain tensioners still stick from time to time (listen
for a rattle on start-up that goes away as the engine warms) but they
are easy and cheap to fix.
Stick it in second and whap the throttle open hard, then shut it and
then whap it open again. If it jumps out of gear, it's been abused, and
so walk away.
Other than that, it's just cosmetics, state of the consumables (shagged
tyres and pads and a worn-out chain will add as much as £400 to the
cost) and look for any non-standard stickers that may be covering panel
damage.
Oh - and squint at the lock stops on the headstock. You never know - it
might have been in a crash and rebuilt with new bodywork.
