How to break a SOBandit 600
|
Simple. Have the oil pressure switch fall out and mangle the ignition
signal generator rotor on the end of the crank as it flaps about on its
wiring. So, the total damage is about 100 quid and half an hour's home
done labour. I was tonking down the A120 towards Colchester at the time,
when the engine just cut and the oil pressure light came on while the
engine was spinning freely in 6th. I thought that alone was unusual
because it should have kept oil pressure even if the ignition had died.
I had a suspicion this had happened because the oil pressure switch's
security has been a concern since WC dropped this bike about 3 yrs ago.
Auntie Caroles new breakdown service is dog slow. I called them at
approx 10-40am. It took them a couple of hours at least to get to me and
I got home around 2pm. The van they sent was purpose built and had all
the right kit and fixings and the operator was a decent sort, but the
response times seriously need looking into.

Think how long you'd have waited for a "friend" assuming you have one
available to help collect it or alternatively having to leave it at the
wayside...

We waited longer than that at the side of the A2 last September. I
reckon we could have pushed the Wing home in the time it took to
collect us. It took three calls from the orange phonebox at the side
of the road, too. The bloke at motorway control was getting quite
agitated.

TBF to AC when the B12 threw its chain last year the 3rd part recovery
service collected me from the M6 and took me to Gourock efficiently. My
only gripe was sending someone 1st with no ability to recover a bike.
This wasted an hour. I *told* them repeatedly on the phone that the
chain was off and lost and unless they carried 112 links of 525 it was
pointless. In the 3 hours talking to the recovery driver he admitted
this was the regular problem but also that the recovery rates being paid
were falling and it was getting to the DGAF level.
At least one driver took me all the way to final destination. Gawd knows
how many changes/days AA Relay would have taken, I had that membership
too and ignored it. Since they were sold off the service is pants.
