Towing

I know this has been discussed before, but most articles I find refer
to services in the western part of the country - I live in
Massachusetts. I own a 1979 Yamaha 650 and am trying to find a company
Get on the vjmc.org mailing list and Ping Polarhound. He lives in your neck
of the woods (Western MA) and maybe able to help. He posts here on
occasion.

with a service that covers motorcycle towing. I have been reluctant to
take long-distance rides across New England since my drive chain master
link snapped 200 mi from home last year. I was lucky that someone with
a pickup stopped to help, but I want to have a plan for when (not if) I
break down in the future.

I was looking at MTS and thought that seemed like a good plan, then I
noticed they only cover 1980 and up bikes. That dosn't seem right, but
they're out. AMA only covers 35 mi of towing, fairly useless for 200
mi rides. Uhaul costs for a truck add up (big time) when you have to
make a round trip to get the bike and bring it back. Any ideas?
I think you'll find most tow plans are to get you to the nearest repair
facility for assistance, not for towing the bike home. In that respect,
AMA's MoTow is a pretty good deal, though I wouldn't mind seeing the
distance increased to 50 miles, or even to the "nearest facility" in the
case where you're quite some distance from any. ;-)
Uhaul bike trailer - $ 15 / day. 400 miles round-trip = 1
easy day. Have it back before they close that night, or first thing
in the morning.
