Another nice ride and a question...

So, another quicky 60 mile run today, was puttering along and someone came
zipping up behind me towards the end, so I just HAD to run. After we were
all done he pulled up beside me at a red light and started talking...nice
bike. First time I'd seen one of those Ohlins clad R1 yellow/black
Limited/Championship whatever editions.
He admired the obvious battlescars on my baby bike and I admired his fork
legs. I want me some Ohlins!
Anyway, the question. Does everyone remember the "one drop of gear lube per
roller" chainlube argument from a few years back?
Well, I decided back then to try it, and the first chain to live most of its
life under this rule is the mighty mite. And it isn't looking all that
great. A little stiff looking, kinks maybe even, the links don't move all
that smoothly from link to link....it just doesn't look particularly
healthy.
Is there some trick to the gear lube routine that I'm missing? Have others

No way you are gonna belt Mr. RC 45. If you did I would go take a look
at how the Buells are set up since they have zero driveline snatch.
There is a belt tensioner they are using to achieve this.

used this technique for say, 20K miles and all has worked fine? I'm just
wondering, because chains are hardly cheap and if the dribbling on gear lube
technique isn't going to help keep the chain alive for a long time, I'm
considering other methods..particularly on the VStrom, which still has a
mostly new chain and I don't want to ruin it if the gear lube drop per
roller technique hasn't worked for others.
