Best chain lube: no lube at all?

Someone suggested that the best chain lube for your dirt bike is not to
use any at all, to just run it dry since any lube will suck in dirt that
will effectively cause more wear to the chain. The idea sounded absurd
to me but maybe this guy's up to something. Anyone here runs their bikes
with no lube at all?

He claims his chain lasts just as long and he doesn't go through any
more sprockets than back when he used to use lube. Let's face it, if I
don't have to remember to lube that chain before every ride it'll make
me very happy, especially the part about the mess it makes. Is this an
old wives' tale or does this idea hold merit?
i'm like baxter (except i ride slower). i pretty much only use wd-40 or
chainlub on my chain right after washing my bike. when i ride in dry
conditions i go months w/o washing the bike, so months w/o lubing the
chain. i get 4000+ miles out of a chain and sprocket set (steel
sprockets). many dezert guys don't use chain lube, but if you ride in
wet weather and muck it makes more sense to do something to keep it
from rusting.
I have been racing for over ten years and I have never heard of someone
using no chain lube. I know for a fact that when you get dust or dirt
in your chain it will gum it up to where you cant spin your wheel that
good at all. Iv had a chain break on me and trust me it will do lots of
damage. I ended up putting a hole in my case. So I would always
recomend using chain lube.
The streetbike guys I know who rack up lots of miles use a Scottoiler.
