newbie kinda questions about a "might happen" trip

Shirley, can you get my gps masters, trip planners and random onlookers a
drink to get started here?
Plastics on the bar. (Disclaimer: no previous experience with this route)

4 of us girls (and one kiddo) are thinking about taking off over a long 4th
of July weekend
to go from Austin,TX to Trinidad,CO.

We will have 3 bikes and a pickup pulling a pop-up camper. (I'm thinking
about $500.00 in gas RT???)
15MPG ????????? I think 10 mpg
May as well figure 35 mpg on the bikes
$3. a gal ???? I think $3.50 + for 4th July weekend
Hopefully you will have some gas money left over.
A trial run to Martin Tn would be a good idea to calcualte more better.
I'm not sure what the truck is getting...I had guessed around 12, but did
not put the other bikes in.

ROT: Part of it...I actually have to work a lot (BOSS is on vacation).
Saturday and Saturday night.
Friday night we will be at Coyote Ugly, watching the bike parade come in.

kickstart
George and I have met, he knows what he ain't missing.
;-)

Since we are traveling with a youngster, we will want to take a very direct
route there and back, to maximize the time spent playing there.

I searched the web for about 750 miles and 12-13 hours.....sound right?
We are considering Monument Lake park (about halfway up legends highway)
for our camping spot...or would you recommend another?? (We really don't
know the area at all!!)

Bikes: Are the elevations such in these areas that we have to tweak the
carbs? (and recommendations for doing that if necessary)
FWIW, when I got my used ST1100 it ran great at sea level where I live
but ran progressively richer as the altitude increased to the point of
nearly not making it over Washington Pass on the Cascade Loop. As it
turned out the carbs had been boogered with by the previous owner and
restoring them to proper specs rectified the problem.

I'm really just gathering basics to see if this is feasible...

Thanks, and have another round...
I would actually love to be in Martin this weekend...I miss Tennessee so
much!
But I'm here, so I'll be at ROT.
Thanks for looking this over. We will route this with your suggestions.
I'll post a map when we get it figured out...
I did not know the carbs would take care of themselves. Thanks George, next
diet cokes on me!
