Check that shifter peg for tightness! I didn't ...

... and had the S.O.B. fall off on me yesterday. Wasn't able to find
it either.

Yesterday was the first time I think I never did a routine check of the
bike before heading out (was trying to get a quick ride in away from
the city before the football game started). I usually check with a
glance over the headlight, the brakes, the brake light, turn signals,
fuel level, oil, tires, mirrors. I did none of that yesterday, and
didn't realize until I was stopped at the first red light (doh!).

Not that my pre-ride check would have necessarily caught the loose
shifter peg, but one always seems to learn something new when riding,
no matter how often you ride, and this time it taught me to check the
tightness on the pegs.
Never lost a shifter pag, but I bet that would be a bit disconcerting until
you figure what is wrong. Fortunately on most bikes you can adjust to that
loss if need be.
I'd pay 8 bucks to get mine off. *And* a six-o-cold Coors.
Does anyone that knows my name see something familiar with this guys..

"Gentleman" Dave
Yeah, as a matter of fact I thought you posted th' above when I first
read it. Methinks this newby, "dpat"
Welllll, lessee here. I got's me a cuttin' torch...and a trailer to
haul it with.
Seriously, take the lever off the biike and chuck it in the vise. You
Well, therein lies the other problem. It took me several years and
about a dozen drill bits to get the rear shift lever off. Ruined it in
the process, of course. I'm hesitant to even try the front one.

The guy that owned this bike before me must have had some shifter
problems at some point in time. Everything related is practically
welded on.

can put a lot more 'umph' on it that way.
What do you pay 8 bucks with? A little doe?

feller might wanna change his addy.
And just shortening to initials won't work either. The bar has one of
those already.

I did think of Dave when I saw that, but then I thought 'GD? thorough pre-ride
inspection? naaahhh. Can't be the dpatrick I know.'
