OT: Paging the PVR mob..

I've been looking at a few different sites for this and get conflicting
information. Would a 1GHZ Duron processor, 640mb RAM and a hauppage
pvr150 card be up to ripping and/or watching a single stream, and
dumping stuff to DVD?

I've got an old machine kicking about, and thought it'd make a useful
way to dump things to DVD from the skybox. I'm not bothered about all
the scheduling and planner stuff , as the skybox does that just fine
already.
Ignoring the fact that there may be better/cheaper consumer box
options...

...the machine you describe above will run GBPVR nicely. It really is
an excellent product, with great support from the forums, and does
the TV listings.
I just bought this for £ 147 and its stonkingly good

Multi Region 160GB Hard Disc DVD recorder
They make reasonably-priced dedicated DVD recorders these days, you know.
And they don't eat 300W of juice all day.
Good point. I think I'll do that instead, as it'll also be quieter.
combined DVD recorders/hard disk recorders are pretty cheap. Just DVD
is very cheap - I got a not-bad Liteon one from Amazon for less than
80 quid delivered.
But does it do all the EPG/record series stuff?
of course not. But it only cost 80 quid.
Tesco had one for about £50 last week. I remember paying £180 for
mine and thought that was a bargain 18 months ago!
