RAC Travel Insurance
|
Hi y'all
With the hot summer days upon us(!), not to mention the forthcoming TOG
tour, this may be of interest, and then again maybe not. I have been a
member of the RAC for many years now solely to cover my motorcycling
with regard to breakdown cover and any other services they provide. It
has just come to my attention that they no longer use AXA to provide
travel insurance but now use London and Edinburgh. L&E will not cover
motorcyclists travelling on a bike over 125cc. Is it me, or is it
incredible that a motoring organisation such as the RAC uses an insurer
that will not cover motorcyclist customers for travel insurance?
|
The "RAC" is not a motoring organisation. It is a plc recently acquired by
Aviva plc which came about when Norwich Union merged with Commercial Union.
Surprise, surprise, L&E is owned by Aviva too.
There is a separate RAC Foundation which has the motoring advocacy role
previously done by "RAC".
|
That may be so, but I wager most people think of the RAC as the Royal
Automobile club and as such is thought of primarily as a motoring
organisation offering services to motorists. Thus they will be
attracting motorists including motorcyclists to pay for membership of
their organisation. My grouse is that they then do not offer discounted
travel insurance to motorcyclists.

That is a bit mad.
I ended up getting travel insurance through Churchill of all people and
the T&C's appear to cover motorcycle travel (so long as a helmet is
worn etc) - was rather cheap.
Euro break down is through the AA which was a fair bit cheaper (for me)
than anyone else for reasons I'm not quite sure of.
Probably (hopefully) won't use either one.
|
I have just checked, and my "free" insurance through having a
particular bank account is covered by AXA, and does indeed still cover
motorcycle travel.
|
is who I use, axa policy too..
|
Yay the frogs again.
|
|
Frogs are good, oh yes they are. Mmm, fromage. Yum, yum. C'est si bon.
|
I'm not sure even the French deserve that.
Can't you employ some Germans?
|

|
|
Hooray those frogs.
Incidentally, who do you bank with? My current account with Alliance &
Leicester has "free" travel ins. but excludes riding bikes.
|
Lloyds TSB, Platinum account. Maybe better accounts around but I have
had this account number since opening my first account in 1978. The
customer loyalty line has been used more than once to get some
action/refund of, what I consider, unreasonably incurred charges .
|
Incidentally II, if anyone is looking to arrange last minute health
insurance cover then both the Post Office & Nationwide sell biker friendly
policies over the counter. Prices are sensible too.
|
Hope this may be of interest/use etc.
See some of you Friday.
