DV Recorder Recommen dations

I have just bought a pen-cam for recording bike trips and found that my
rather old Sony Hi8 HandiCam doesn't have AV input capabilities.
I have searched this ng without success for previous info.
So, FOAK, can you recommend a reasonably priced, quite basic, tough,
compact digital video camera with AV input with which I can make my home
Sorry - not an answer to your request for a recommendation, but bear in mind
the cheaper Mini DV cameras (which is what will probably fit your needs
most) will only have AV / DV out. For some annoying reason, those that
support DV or AV _in_ are classed in the same boat as video recorders, which
attract higher import tax than video cameras. You'll probably be paying a
fifty quid premium on the bottom-end models for the inputs.

movies?
You didn't search very hard, I've mentioned on at least 3 separate posts the
use of the Canon MV500i
MiniDV camcorder linked to my bullet cam
The only gripe is no LANC control (i.e. a button on the handlebar to
start/stop recording)
The MV750i I think has this and can be found under £ 250 I believe
My Sony TRV-22 has AV-input - and DV-in/out. Discontinued now, but
you should be able to pick one up on Fleabay easily enough.

Thanks all :-)
Sony mini DV. Any that have AV-in should be fine.

My 110E is still going strong despite hideous abuse and lots of on-bike
filming, and the picture quality is excellent. It has LANC too, which is
nice, and I would think they'd only have got better/smaller in the
intervening 6 years.
Hi Bear

Got a Canon MV5i, works great with a Sport Cam attachment.
BUT...
How do I get the tapes to mpeg on the PC?
I've tried the software that came with it, which purports to save to avi
file then says file type unknown. I've tried Pinnacle Studio 9 which
doesn't see the camera either on DV/AV or USB.
If anyone can help, I'd be very grateful.

Cheers all
