OT: Mouse problems
|
Right, this has got me baffled.
I've got a Logitech MX5000 desktop (with bluetooth) and the MX1000
cordless laser mouse (bluetooth again).
When I first installed these all worked well. Now a problem has
developed [1].
When using the mouse it works alright in the beginning, then after a few
seconds, the pointer behaves like it is moving through treacle and loses
sync with what the mouse is doing. At this point, if I stop moving the
mouse, the pointer actually catches up on the screen [2].
|
Put new batteries in the mouse. The battery consumption can be much
more rapid than expected.
|
It has built-in rechargeables and an indicator. I don't think that
there is a correlation between having a low battery and the behaviour
that I've mentioned, though I will put it on charge for a while.

Got a wireless network? Bluetooth uses the same frequency band. They're
*supposed* to work around each other but normally don't in practice.
|
Used to, but I haven't used it in ages. Everything is unplugged and not
powered [1].
|
Failing that, uninstall all Logitech software and drivers and
re-install again.
Actually, if you don't use the Logitech specific bits of their software
(i.e. any special keys apart from the norm), leave the Logitech s/w off
the computer and let Windows use its own drivers (if it has any).
|
Currently on a clean install of XP Pro with no Logitech stuff near it
and it is still acting in the same way. I didn't get round to
installing sp2 either. This seemed to cause the same problem this
morning during the install, so I binned it and started again.

Both the keyboard and the mouse are connected to the computer via
bluetooth. There are no other bluetooth devices in the house [3].
Currently on XP Pro.
Anyone had this before, and more importantly, anyone know how to stop
this happening.
[1] Started about 1 week ago. Mainly noticed whilst playing Darwinia,
Half Life 2 etc where there is a requirement for constant movement of
the mouse.
[2] The pointer keeps moving even with the mouse stationary until it
has caught up with where it is supposed to be.
[3] That are turned on. My mobile usually doesn't have the bluetooth
enabled.
