OT: So this new Apple phone

mpl.shtml
and who's going to sue whom first - Apple or Linksys (given that
Linksys launched a product called "iPhone" last year).
And so it begins:
Neither. It's Cisco:

Ah, that'll be Linksys, a division of Cisco.

htm

So it can do Internet access, play videos and music, and it's a phone.

Right. Revolutionary. Woo-hoo.

Clearly, I'm missing something.

I wonder what it is?
It's an Apple!...meaning it's very well-made and easy to use. Plus,
ROTFLMAO!

Speaking as the proud owner of a 60 gig iPod, Apple couldn't manufacture
a block of stone that lasted longer than 12 months.
Nah, that's just iPods. This MacBook Pro is beautifully built[1]
my older iBook isn't - it's rubbish.
The G3 and G4 'iceBooks' are a little iffy - there's lots of letters
missing on the keycaps of mine, but it's going back to John Lewis to
have that fixed very soon.

The 'Pro' range of machines has always been very well built - Katie's
1999 vintage Powerbook is still going strong and looks pretty much like
a brand new machine.

[1] So far
I'll say the same for my iPod. At the moment.

Your iPod is or isn't working?

Steve Jobs scoffs at everything which is similar to it but is not quite
it, therefore you must get one.

Nevermind that the other side of the "It's an Apple!" coin is that it's
overpriced beyond words... just go and get one!

Let the U2 commercials commence!

(I love my O2 XDA Mini, myself.. just got it and Steve Jobs can buy me
an iPhone if he wants me to have one so badly.)
Dunno...

I still want one :)
You've been bitten by the marketing bug?
Made by apple obv, so the masses will love it because its white and has a
touchey fingery interface.
Hmm... A suspicion forms.

OK.

Is this thing on? One, two, one, two...

STEVE JOBS ISN'T WEARING ANY CLOTHES!

oh FFS

Fashion is fashion.

If you don't like it you don't need to buy an ArmaniGucciLouisVitton phone.

Some people are interested in that sort of thing. For various reasons
ranging from "being an arty type", being a poseur to enjoyment of simple
Bzzt. Duplication.
Deviation. The crime is "repetition".

engineering elegance.

I happen to like Apple I objet d'art [1] and if they can repeat the
usability of the interface from the ipod, they'll be onto a winner.

[1] Not enough to actually purchase one, but that's an engineering
elegance versus price thing ;-)

PS I tend to ignore the cult of Steve Jobs as marketing gobbledegook
Not made by Apple but it's white, has a touchy fingery interface and
plugs into an iPod. Looks like the essential accessory:
Your XDA probably supports 3G functionality more fully, whereas the
apple doesn't.
Europe doesn't get this until the end of the year, by which time they
may well have stuck in a 3G chipset. 3G coverage is pretty sparse in
the US, too, so it doesn't make sense for them to include it,
especially when you consider the phone's already fairly pricey, and
probably makes heavy enough demands on its battery already
It doesn't have a GPS built in either, which is becoming more popular.
I know of a company that will soon be releasing a phone with GPS built
in.
I know of a company that have already launched a phone with GPS build
in. Nokia.
That's N95, isn't it? It's not yet available, is it?
yes.
it is in the UK.
bad form, actually you're right - it's still pre-order only.

I thought it was available because one of my contractors was talking
about buying one.
Heh, I thought I was going mad. :-)
I'm fairly sure a mate of mine has a phone with GPS built in. I don't
know what make it is, though.

(Mind you, in the US, I think that they have devices that use antenna
triangulation to locate your position, so this may be implemented on
the iPhone.)

Oh, and it's running MacOS, which is different.
A phenomenally huge marketing budget.
It's a phone with lots of memory.

And no, no-one in the Mac group seems to see the point, either.

Same with the iTV thing - doesn't apear to offer anything over XBox
Media Centre or Sky+.
An affection for Alfas?
30 second battery life?
Comes with a VFR/Hongdu interface

Is your cat walking around on your computer? :)
Often. It's warm you semm,mlkjlj.
Ours has taken to jumping onto the arm of the sofa, walking along the
top of the printer, across the desk via the keyboard, up my chest, over
my head, then settling on top of the back of my chair, & purring in my
ear.

As my chair's one of those high-backed leather jobbies that tilts back
on a springy thing, the extra weight of moggy on the back makes it tilt
quite a bit further than normal. This is fine until I forget she's
there & stand up, leaving moggy laying there about four feet off the
ground, wondering why her comfy leather bed is disappearing into the
distance.

My sister's cat has her revenge for that. She lies in wait in the gap
twixt boiler cupboard and ceiling then drops on my shoulder as I walk
past. Naturally all braking methods are used to ensure there is no cat
/ floor interface.......
Yea I was just watching the piece on News 24 about it, the yank news
segment, and apparently some americans had been queueing from some silly
o'clock hour to get in and be able to see it first. Not even buy it, just
look. And Mr Jobs also pointed out it was 5 years ahead of any other
phone - no one mentioned why though?
The Reg reports it as not being 3G, and it can't do MMS. If the iPhone
is 5 years ahead, I'll time-capsule my unused T68i now for Buck Rogers.
Why unused? Throw it my way. Mine survived a full 40 degrees wash cycle
[1] in a pocket, but you never know when a spare might be handy.

[1] 'Easy Care' rather than 'Intense' TBF.
Unused as I've had two new phones since then. It's got the camera
attachment, charger, etc. but I can't remember how to reset it/the pin
which it's asking for when turned on.

If it's any use, send me an email.
