FOAK: Cost of VFR valve clearance service
|
It's a pre-VTEC 800 for those who don't know.
I asked the local guy doing my MOT how much he'd charge to do the oil
change, oil and air filters, spark plugs and the valve clearances - he
said he'd charge £260.
|
you're a pikey.
Gimme a shout Loz, ta.
|
Does this sound reasonable? - I've not used a bike mechanic for so many
years I don't really know what's reasonable and what isn't these days.
|
I've just been quoted 300 quid for the same thing on the ZX636 but the
price could rise depending on how many shims (whatever they are) are
used. Sounds like you got a good deal Steve. Can you pass me his
details please.

Nice honest bloke - although he did manage to flog me a battery charger,
on the basis that I could do with trying to charge it up properly before
shelling out for a new one.

Cheers Steve. Booked in for the 15th.

If that is a fixed price and all in then yes that is good. I've paid
far more than that for VFR servicing at an official Honda dealer.
|
It is. I asked for a quote to do the clearances only and he said £140.
But then said that he'd do the full service and clearances for £260.
Sounds like a decent idea - I'll book it in for just before our long
trip at the end of the summer.
Seems like a decent guy, too. When he took my address off me, he told me
that he lived just up the road and that if I had any problems with the
bike and couldn't get it to his workshop, to phone him at home and he'd
pop over.

Yes. I bet a Honda dealer would quote you approaching £400 for a major inc.
valves service. S.Wales main dealer rates are £50-60 an hour. Have you
phoned Thunderroad or S Wales Superbikes for a comparison?
