Anyone got a Harman/Kardon Cinepower 200? One of these:

If so, how the f..k do I get 5.1 surround? I've hooked up all the
speakercables to the speakers and their corresponding holes on the receiver.
Do I need a Coaxial cable (sounds odd, but you never know). I've just used
all the cables provided and thought to sit down with a loud movie, but with
only the two frontspekaers, a centerspeaker and subwoofer, it's not what I
As it looks like the DVD player is part of the AV receiver, I very much
doubt you have to do anything with co-ax/optical to get to the 5.1 surround
from your DVDs. As Dave's already mentioned, you probably just have to
flick through the modes on the box until you hit the one which makes it use
DTS or whatever's available on your disks.

If you've got a Sky/Sky+/SkyHD box, Bluray, HDDVD, Media PC or other
external surround sound source, then you'll need co-ax or optical to get the
signal into your surround sound unit.
I've got a Sony system (as you'll hear (although you wont hear it as much as
ginge - his room's above it....) in 2 weeks) and, when you select Auto on
Post corrected.

the remote it doesn't *actually* automatically choose 5.1 unles you keep
pressing Auto til it gets to the *right_kind* of auto sound type you want...
It took me 3 months to get round to reading the instruction manual before I
found out why some DVDs had the full DTS and others just 2.1.....

Also I have optical, two way and co-ax feeds all plugged in as it came with
'em and I thought it best to have the full range ready to go and let the box
sort itsself out than have to go through the whole diagnostic thing I had to
do when I first got a DVD recorder/VCR/Sky+/TV combination in the UK....

Of course you seem to have a proper manufacturer's kit so it may be
different....

anticipated.
Has sir set-up his DVD player to accept 5.1, and has sir made sure that
5.1 is selected on the DVD audio menu on the disc?
Sir has certainly done so....
Is the DVD player separate? How is it connected?

If it's a pair of RCA phonos then you won't get 5.1, it needs to be
coaxial or optical connection.
Bad form and all that, but looking closer it seems to be a cloggy-only
package of AVR130 (like what I've got) and a DVD27, which answers my
question above. So you need to hook up the coaxial output on the DVD to
one of the coaxial inputs on the amp..

On the AVR130 you can link any device selection to any digital input,
so you need to select DVD and then press "Digital" on the remote
control. You select the appropriate digital input by using the up and
down cursor keys
Right, went with the coaxial cable, at least the system recognises it and
all the little icons are used, so I assume it's got 5.1. Shame the rear
speakers haven't caught on yet., Maybe they need to be connected to the
(active) sub. Can't be arsed yet...
I sort of thought this would be the case, thanks, I'll sort some cables
Nope, the rear speakers are hooked into the amp. Press the test button
on the remote and you should get a test tone cycling through all of the
speakers individually.
Did, but the rear noises are coming from the boxes in the front :-(
Arse, when in doubt, recheck cables. Ahem :-)

I am now a happy bunny, the neighbours less so....

Monday...
Couldn't you just use one of your existing RCA phono cables between the
co-ax sockets?
