list price?
|
Any help gratefully received. I am looking to buy a Yamaha FZS1, but
have never bought new before. The list price is =A37,599. Can anyone
tell me if it is normal to have to pay list price for a bike, and
perhaps point me to somewhere where it's not?

Well, if you buy a copy of MCN there will be lots of adverts in there
for new bikes at discounted prices.
It's not normal to pay list for any motor vehicle, car or bike - pitch
in with an offer 500 quid under what *you* think it's worth and see what
the dealer comes back with. (A starting point of 25% off list should see
some movement)

If you want one now then you will have to pay close to list price. It's a
new model for this year and I doubt many have been imported. There won't be
any discounts yet (e.g. it's not included in Yamaha's 0% finance offer).
Wait until Sept. and if there are any left in stock then the price will
drop, as dealers will try to avoid carrying stock into next year.
The time to buy will be next spring as new stock arrives. Any 2006 bikes
left unsold will be discounted by £1200 or so. Just look at what has
happened to the FZ6 to see the pattern: list price of £4700 now available
for £4k with 0% finance.
If you do buy an FZS1 now, for close to RRP, then you will take a massive
depreciation hit in 12 months when it becomes just another unfashionable
UJM.
