FXRS-C w/Sport Windshield
|
Posted a new pic next door after repositioning the sport windshield on
my fxrs-c. (Search same subject name as above.)
Does this look more reasonable to prevent/minimize buffeting?
Thanks, and have a round on me.

I used a Slipsteamer Spitfire on my Sporty for years and was real
happy with it. Taint an FXR, but should fit your front end just fine.

How a windshield works with regard to buffeting varies with
every rider. For me stock small windshields like that create more
buffeting than they cure. After all, buffeting is the wind curl off
the windshield. A clean air stream without a windshield doesn't
buffet, it just resists your passage through it.
The only windshield I ever put on an FXR is a Windvest. The
"flip" throws the wind, & buffeting effect, over your head. Worked
for me, but doesn't mean it'd do a thing for you. There's a lot of
experience & advice here, but some things you just have to experiment
with.

The Windvest works well for me. At first I had the same problem as Steve
Paul Chubba Chuck Yuckies Upchuck (or whatever you go by today). I cured
the buffeting by bringing an allen wrench along for the ride. I adjusted
the windshield until it was straight up and down, rode it, adjusted it
by tilting it back toward me a little rode it some more. Remember to

That's eggzackly how I fine tuned my WindVest w/s too. Finally ended up
with some god awful angle, but that's where it dialed in at. About a
month or so ago a buddy wanted to try it out on his bike. Turns out it
didn't fit, but my scoot (FXST) looked so good with it off, I left it
off. I've had the WV since '03 and it's been a great w/s, but I had
forgotten how much it took away from the looks of the bike. The WV
doesn't do near the job of the stock one on the Ultra but keeps the
major blast off of ya.
Speakin' of which I just stuck a 14" w/ the recurve at the top on the
Ultra. Due to my height I was experiencing some head bobble w/ the
stock 12".

I thought you wuz going with a shorter shield? From Tinman?
Fins BS3221
|
Yes. The good Tinman offered to bring it to SNIFF for me but I wanted
it for the ride up there so I bought one just like it from the same
company that he and TL got theirs from. I've since changed my mind and
went with the taller one. Just put it on there a week ago and haven't
ridden with it yet. It will be harder to see over that's a fact.

repeated this process until I found the "pocket". As Jinks says, it
deflects the wind over your head. When I first put it on the bike I
couldn't stand it, after adjusting it properly it's great, IMHO. FYI
it's on a FXSTD, not an FXR, YMMV.
|
That makes sense. Thanks. Guess I'll have to practice some patience, and
work on it some more.
I think I'm out of business here now for the rest of the winter. I'd be
really surprised to get any more ride time before March/April. Once it
starts getting wet, cold, and there's overnight, or daytime icy road
conditions, the salt and sand goes down all over the place. I can wash off
the salt, but the sand will take you down in a hurry.
