Paging the Datatool System 3-isti



1) My new old Tiger has a Datatool System 3 which looks like it's been
fitted by the dealer (the 'confidential certificate of installation'
has the dealer's name and address hand written on it). The key fobs
are "Triumph" branded.

I know it might sound like a silly question, but are Triumph branded
key fobs standard with a System 3 if they're fitted by the dealer, or
is this likely to be Triumph fitted System 3?
Triumph dealers fit the Datatool alarms at their dealership, not at the
factory. They come boxed up as an aftermarket accessory in a nice
Triumph branded box with properly written and easy to follow
instructions. Eevrything plugs in to prewired blocks around the bike,
and on the newest models the alarm LED is built in to the clock
binnacle, so when it fails it means a new set of clocks are needed.
And fail it surely will, being Datatool.

The only question is, will it happen when you own it, or will you have
sold it on by then?
It doesn't matter to me if my alarm fails, I have the little prewired
block that goes in where the immobiliser circuit plugs into the original
wiring loom. Auntie Carole didn't load me for not having an alarm, so I
told her not to take it into account when quoting. All Triumph buyers
are given the block if they have a Datatool alarm fitted.
So, to summarise;

1. It doesn't help stop your bike get nicked (else they'd give you a
discount)

2. The bike its attached to isn't that desirable (don't blame me, have a
go at CN for not worrying whether you put an alarm on or not)

3. They know it's going to go wrong, so they take steps to ensure you
can move again after it's done so.

Does anyone else think that "bike alarm manufacturer" is a bit like a
license to print money?
I haven't got a block either.

However, the key fob is playing up. I can stand next to the bike and
press the 'disarm' key until the cows come home and it doesn't listen,
the flight on the fob flashes and all that but nothing from Mr. T.
Pressing the "ferry mode" button on the fob is greeted by a beep from
Mr. T and the nudge/movement sensor is turned off.

I wasn't impressed by this when trying to get home this evening. After
much pressing of buttons the bike gave it's normal beep beep to show
that it was now re-armed even though it had never given the beep to
demonstrate it was disarmed in the first place. A few seconds later I
pressed the disarm button again and the bike disarmed.

I've tried the spare fob on the spare key-ring just now and that
produces much better results.

I would have thought that it was potentially a sign of the battery in
the fob being on it's way out but the manual suggests that when the
signal from the fob is on low power the bike blips three times when
disarmed.

The joy of alarms.
I wasn't when I bought my Triple.
Nor I when I bought Pinkie.


2) Is there an easy way to check to see if the default PIN has been
changed from the default 0000 without making lots of noise?

3) If the PIN has been changed (the install cert's "PIN" box is blank)
and I am unable to find out who changed it, and what to, is there an
easy process for getting the PIN reset by a Datatool dealer?

I forecast a visit to the dealer in the near future to pick up some
kind of 'in line fuse' as the spare the manual on Datatool's website
insists I carry with bike itself is either very well hidden or with a
previous owner but I'd appreciate it if Someone Who Knows can help me
out in the short term with the answers to any of the above questions.
