Spark plug tool size?
|
Can anyone tell me what size the spark plug socket is for a bandit 1200 '98
please?
|
The spark plug is 18mm across the flats. So is the socket, 'cos I
just troubled myself to go and measure it for you.
|
The one that comes with it is no longer there, so need to go out and buy a
new one.
|
I'd get the Suzuki item from a Suzuki dealer, IIWY. The crucial part
is the wall thickness of the tool, as there is only a couple of mm
clearance between the spark plug and the tunnel it lives at the bottom
of. You may strike lucky - I know one of my spark plug sockets fits
down the tunnel and over the plug, but it is a high-quality Snap-On

DO you mind
Mine are all in a row, inside a nice warm tool chest in an insulated
garage cosseted upon the finest soft rubber matting.
|
Ahhh, but would I get laying my grubby mitts on 'em?

|
So does mine, it's a 'Teng' one.

Name dropper :)
TBH, I'm prepared to slum it with Britool, USAG, MAC, Elora, Sealey and
Stahlwille when necessary for one-offs.
I do have a full set of Snap-on impact sockets. They're great as I get

I'll let you come and fondle mine if you like. I have some too.

Cor, you never used to let me touch them in case I got fingerprints on 'em
or put them a nanometre out of alignment...

replacements when the drive end gets worn (oo err)
For the bike, I treated myself to a Teng socket set, which is easily
carried around as it has a neat case.

item made, one assumes, from good quality steel so the wall thickness
can be reduced. I have several other plug sockets that will not fit
down the tunnel.
The OE item is the easiest way out, unless you want to drop fifty quid
on a Snap-On socket, or buy a cheap one and be prepared to grind diown
the outside diameter to allow passage.
|
Shouldn't be necessary if he gets something decent. I hate cheap chrome
plated sockets. I've slashed myself on flaky chrome once too often.
Halfords used to stock Teng IIRC, but all the big motor factors do.
