another bike rec question

Well those who've read my posts will know that I've got a GS500 that'll do
90+ with a tailwind, 70 in a headwind and has the front of the engine mount
broken off. As much as I like chucking it about I'd like something with a
bit more grunt now - ie it'll still do 90+ into a headwind.

Here are some of the things that might affect the choice (in no particular
order):

1. budget <= 1500ish
2. economical to run - I know fuel economy isn't a high priority in the
group but I have a wife who doesn't want me to have a bike at all so one
that costs a lot to run could result in appendage loss
3. easy to work on - as in OMF easy
4. capable of doing >10k miles per year, most of it at 80ish on motorways
5. suitable for somebody fairly lanky (6'2") - I tend to look like I should
stridulate on the GS

What's the consensus on the likes of the Kawasaki ZR750? I know Champ has
slated them in the past but I think maybe he's looking for something
different in a bike than I am. There appear to be decent low mileage
examples in my budget.
