2008 Kawasaki Concours 14 - First Look
|
Looks like they did a nice job on updating the Concours!
|
That's because (let's face it) most bikes are running CAR engines. Take my
wife's car for example, it has a 4-cylinder engine that is DWARFED by some
motorcycle engines (production! motorcycle engines)
Take your average LITER sized motorcycle engine . . . there is no reason you
couldn't pop that puppy into a Corolla (or other small sedan/coupe) and end
up with a perfectly driveable automobile that would have a top speed of
(forget about a ticket, gets you arrested guaranteed), and get pretty good
fuel economy, also.
I don't see the sense of having such huge engines in motorcycles. It seems
like the market is upside down. There should be a few liter and 2-liter
bikes AVAILABLE, but most motorcycles should have (duh!) motorcycle sized
engines, around 500cc or so average. -Dave

Sporty

I'm planning on trading my Volusia this spring on something more along the
lines of a sport tourer. My choices up to now were 2007 V-Strom 1000 or a
used BMW 1150RT.
|
There were a lot more choices than that out there that compare to the
new kaw....
|
Now this comes out...I didn't even consider a Concours because of the dated
look, the price was right though.
Now I really want a Concours...
|
As an ex concours owner('95), I am impressed with the new bike.
I just wonder about the price tag.
If I was looking for a Nimitz Class GT bike, it would be #1 on the list,
I just love Kawi motors!
IMO Honda is missing out on this market.
They stopped making the CBR-XX - or at least selling it in the US, and
the ST1300 isn't as sporty, at least looks wise.
This looks like it's main competition would be the FJR's and the
K1200's, though I didn't notice in the article whether it would have the
ABS option.
