Kawasaki Question

My club has a class called Evolution 4 for any pre-1990 bike. I want
to purchase a KX250 for this class. In your opinion, what was the best
pre-1990 KX250? I am not interested in any other brand, even if it was
better.
Get a 1988 KX250.

And Loctite.
Please excuse my ignorance. What were some of the attributes of the
'88 that made it better than the other '80s KX250's?
By '88, there was a rear disk brake. Before that, it used a drum rear
brake.
The '88 and '89 KX250 had good suspension. The '89 has lots of torque
and made a great off-road bike. If you like to short shift, then you
found your bike.
Short shifting is my middle name! Thanks Mike.
I won't be any help here. But I think the 1990 model (the original
perimeter frame) was supposed to be awesome. That doesn't do you any
good though. Hopefully someone else will be able to help.
