Engine Swap? Kawasaki?

I have a chassis .. 84 Ninja but no engine ... but can I fit a 750
engine from the same year without tooo much trouble? BTW I thought the
900 was water cooled with a rad. but the 750 is air/oil cooled .. not
sure
The original 900 Ninja was water cooled. You may be thinking of a
GPZ-750 or KZ-750
engine of it's air cooled.
Kawasaki made a 750cc version of the 900 Ninja. Just a sleeved down
lump. This will fit in the 1984 chassis with absolutely no problems.

The air-cooled engines will be more hassle than it's worth, yes.

An engine swap will be a nightmare. I wouldn't recommend trying it
unless you are ready to make up custom engine mount brackets and
cables, etc.

The location of the countershaft sprocket is where you'd have to start,
you can't just stick the wrong engine in and think what matters is
whether the holes in the crankcases match some holes in the motor
mounts.

The countershaft sprocket has to be in the correct horizontal location
so it aligns with the rear sprocket, and it also has to be in the right
location vertically so the chain tension
doesn't get too loose as the swing arm moves up and down.

And, the 900 Ninja may need to bolt the cylinder block or the cylinder
head to the frame, while the GPZ750 or KZ750 wouldn't be designed that
way.
