ZX10R Ignition Key Chipped?

Are ignition keys for the 2004 ZX10R chipped?

Yes, the bike comes with a red key, needed to program other kawasaki
blanks.

Mate of mine had a spare key cut [1] for his ZX10R but although the
ignition comes on and the engine turns over it will not fire (the FI
indicator on the clock flashes continually). He puts the original in
and no problem.

There's a whole section on this in the manual that comes with the bike
explaining that standard blank keys are useless.

[1] He's just bought a steering damper and due to the proximity of the
key to the damper control unit the instructions recommend either
cutting a piece out of the plastic on the key or to have a spare cut.
