Good second bike
|
I have had my VTR250 to learn on but after riding a few bigger bikes I'm
thinking it is time for a change. I can ride a big bike as a L plater for a
year so can keep the VTR for when I am by myself and get something else for
riding with mates etc. Ideally I am thinking of something more touring
orientated but a bit sporty too. I'm planning on riding Perth > Melbourne in
the near future. Any suggestions?

250 MZ :-)

He said he wanted something that would have LESS trouble keeping up
with his mates...something a bit sporty...

but as Carol Shelby said, you can make a mighty fast pig
|
|
My mate with the SV suggested the same thing. But plans are for some 2 up
touring and I'm 85 kilos before I stick all my bike gear on.
|
(blimey, at least when Zebee says "you need a guzzi you do" you can
kinda understand why...)
|
My main mate I keep trying to catch rides an SV1000.
|
Can I just caution you on the dangers of relatively inexperienced riders
"trying to catch" more experienced riders, and the additional dangers of
those inexperienced riders buying faster bike "so they can keep up".
Yeah, bigger bikes are fun, but if you're not keeping up because your
mates go round corners faster than you, you end up going faster than
them on the straights to catch back up, then you're going way faster
than them when you arrive at the next corner... This effect is even more
pronounced when you hop on a faster bike...
Take care. Don't push yourself too far out of your comfort zone when
following friends around. If you want to keep up, consider going and
doing some advanced rider training...
(web-search up an aus.moto netride to Wollombi in May-ish 1999 to find the
story where I did what I described up there...)

depends who his mates are and wot they ride doesnt it ?
|
Yeah fair point, if he's riding with the pushbike club he'd be able to
keep up OK provided there weren't any hills. They'd probably object to
the clouds of blue smoke though, so he'd have to ride at the back ! ;-

JL
(he did say a VTR was struggling to keep up, so I think they might be
a bit quicker than the MZ - no ?)

There's a Norge heading that way for the MotoGP shortly. Wanna make it a
pair? You could even use the L-Plates. :-)
|
I might take you up on that mate. Not sure about making it a pair of Norges
but I am definitely considering riding over for the GP. I did the ride to Kal
a couple of months ago and I reckon I could knock off 1000ks a day pretty

I'll be leaving on Sat Oct 6th, or maybe Fri 5th. Planning on getting back
25th or 26th Oct. I have accommodation in Cranbourne and on PI. We have
booked the Full Throttle Club package

action. Watch as the riders blast down the main straight to the start/finish
line. Enjoy phenomenal views with an all inclusive dining package.
BONUS: All Full Throttle VIP three-day ticket packages also include: one
official event cap, one official event program, and one official event

The fear remains for decades and slows you down.

well. I will have to ride back alone because my ex is going to the uk and I
will need to be back before the 22nd to look after my son. How much is the full
throttle package? How long are you planning on doing the trip over in? 3
|
That's about my normal plan.
The Full Throttle package is about $800, but you get a free poster! (and all
you can eat and drink).
