Coming out

Yesterday I rode a Harley Davidson motorcycle.
over the weekend I drove a Nissan 350Z, a Porsche Boxter S and a Lotus
Elise.

I quite enjoyed it.
I rode a Fat Boy last year (that sounds even worse when you type it than
when you just read it....) and I thought it was a very pleasant, relaxed,
£7k bike. It was just a shame it actually cost £14k....
I sat on a V-Rod recently and thought I'd love one if I could keep it a
secret.
No reason why you shouldn't. Harleys are bikes and bikes rock. 'Nuff said.
One of my heroes has feet of clay.

BTW, which model?
me too. Except the Nissan.
Next time, listen to Twingo-boy.
heh. It wasn't absolutely rubbish, it just wasn't very engaging, and
felt cheap. Sitting in both of the others felt like a "good place to
be" - the Nissan was "somewhere I wanted to get out of, and hopefully
no-one I know has seen me in this thing".
I'd love to know your definition of "absolutely rubbish".
Nissan Figaro.
Oh dear - wasn't that top of the list before?
no, 2nd. It's now off the list. Just an unbelievably tacky plasticky
interior, and, crucially, doesn't feel nearly as fast to drive as it
looks like it should be. It seems well enough screwed together, but
even the bits of the interior that look like metal initially turn out
to be made of flimsy-feeling plastic.

How much did you like the Boxster?
quite a lot, actually. The 5 year old car I drove felt very tight and
solid, and didn't look it's age at all (unless you compared the
interior to the much swisher new model).

However, it wasn't nearly as much fun to drive as the Lotus, though. I
nearly fell over getting out of the Elise, not because it's awkward to
do so[1], but because I was laughing so much.

It is now a two horse race - I think the Lotus will win, simply
because the main "advantages" of the Porsche aren't really on my list
of priorities.

[1] it's a lot more tricky getting in.
Darsy, go and test drive a Merc SLK55 AMG.
Great engine, but the car itself is not very nice.
Depends on what you're looking for.

I like its looks, the handling isn't first class but its good, and as I
said its not got that much grip so that it prevents me playing in it.

And the footwell is quite a bit longer.

And its not as common as the Boxster.
I was temporarily confused, and thought he was talking about an
SL55AMG, not the SLK.

Do I look like Blaney?
A bit

Really, really, really go and drive one.
I've driven one.

It's got some go, but frankly it's a bit of a tart's handbag of a car;
ie it's a half-brick in a leather-clad enclosure.

Out of interest, have you ever driven a proper sportscar? I'm not
suggesting you buy one, because I'm not much of a fan of old-time,
hairy-chested "look at my handling" stuff [1], but it might inform your
opinions and also make you look less of a knob to anyone who actually
knows what they're talking about.

[]1 unless it's pretty, "exists only to please" stuff, and only then for
Look just this once, as he's a mate and been through a bad time for the
past 5 years. Catch a cheap flight over Frag, weekend on the Goodness,
spend a day in this 'ere Carrera S. Proper handling, 350 and active
suspenders. Job done.
Deal!

Bring the blonde and we can double end her once the adrenalin is up.

the patient
Why not? A test drive doesn't commit you to anything.

Darsy said he was grinning like a loon after driving the Lotus, the AMG
does the same for me.

(if its within your price range of course, they're down to about ?45k
now)
I don't want to spend more than 20K on a (obviously) 2nd hand
sportscar of some description.

Interesting comments re. the Nissan. I'm deciding between Nissan,
Boxster or SLK350.
If you like the interiors of the Boxster and Mercedes, I think you'll
hate the interior of the Nissan. It's lacking any sort of class or
taste whatsoever.
That's ok, as long as you don't make a habit of it...
You've been spending too much time with Gyp, old man.
You had just your head through before, but if I kicked that closet
door shut on you now, it would smack you in the bollocks. You could
thank me for it, as it may end up saving you the cost of a trip to
Thailand.
