Correct belt tension

Can anyone help? I have a 93 Dyna Low Rider. The original owner's manual
Whatever will keep your pants up.

Glad I could help.

ASSHOLE#104 Len
And they giggled when I used suspenders "fashionably!"
Nobody cares about your suspenders. Ever sell the bagger?

says that in order to correctly tension the drive belt there must be a
person sitting on the bike; however, my genuine Harley shop manual for the
same year does not mention this. It simply tells you that the correct belt
deflection is 3/8" with ten lbs of tension. So which is right?
The shop manual, if it's like mine for my Road King, suggests the
tension be set while the rear wheel is off the ground. Whatever you do,
use the Harley tension guage.
I'd go with the
"genuine Harley shop manual"
Interesting. I understand your dilemma.

Both my manuals have almost the identical statement with a rider
sitting on the bike in each edition.

I'd call Harley Technical Support at their Customer Service number:
(414) 343-4680 for clarification.

A lot of belts get broken prematurely by being too tight. A lot of
pulleys get eat up prematurely by the belt being too loose.
