Which one gives you a woody? Buy that one. It really is
that simple.

Metric bikes (at least those made in Japan) don't have souls. They have
karma yin and yang or something else like that. Nice to own, always
start, never need much fixing, don't leak oil on the garage floor, etc.
But they just don't get to your heart.
A few of European bikes have souls. Like Ducatis and BMWs.
|
Moto Guzzi, Triumph, Laverda, Voxan etc...etc...but mostly the older
European models. The new beemers for example are so....eh...dull.

Have you ever heard of Sonny Barger? He was the president of the
Oakland chapter of the Hells Angels for many years. Here is his opinion
"In terms of pure workmanship, personally I don't like Harleys. I ride
them because I'm in the club and that's the image, but if I could I
would seriously consider riding a Honda ST1100 or a BMW. We really
missed the boat not switching over to the Japanese models when they
started building bigger bikes. I'll usually say "F*** Harley-Davidson.
You can buy an ST1100 and the motherf***** will do 110 miles per hour
right from the factory all day long."

I know it's off-topic what I want to ask, but here I go anyway:
In Europe there aren't that many US cars. Mainly because they're more
expensive when new, you pay higher road tax because of the weight and
pay higher insurance(weight/price) and of course...our gas prices...
However, compared to the Harley market overhere, these cars are quite
affordable on the secondhand market (see above why). I think they're
great looking. Now here it comes :) Can you compare US cars to Japanese
or other brands 'in terms of pure workmanship'?

Sonny said that but never changed over that I know of. I'm thinking if
he had done it he would have missed the Harley pretty soon and have
either shifted back or at least owned one of each.

You really should ride a bike before you buy it.
Have you ridden the bikes you mention? Have you ever ridden a motorcycle,
period?
I own a '05 Ultra Classic, and love it. I would not trade it for a Gold
Wing. The next guy would not trade his Wing for the Ultra. Both are
wonderful bikes, but each has it own pros and cons which are different for
different people. Jap bikes are typically very dependable, low matenance,
but also pretty sterile too. Harleys have gotten very dependable over the
years, but need a bit more attention and service over a jap bike. I like to
do the service on my bike. The next guy will hate it. This is not an
question that anyone can answer for you, you need to decide!
Which do you like better, blondes, brunettes, or redheads? Short, tall,
voluptuous, thin?
I am sure my choice would be the same as yours! It is that simple!

I've never known anyone who said they had spent their life wanting or
saving for a Honda or Yamaha.
