The Harley Stage 3, upgrade
|
KB had the Screaming Eagle Stage 3, upgrade, done to his 2004Heritage
Softtail. (sigh)
Any you Harleys riders know anyone who has had this done to their bike?
KB is our SonINlaw.
He is the only family member that rides a Harley.
The rest of us are Honda riders.
My V45 Magna is the test Bike, so to speak . When someone, either a
family member, or a friend gets a new Bike, or gets a Bike, period, they
want to go up against my 750-V45 Magna. It is the Bike to beat. The
only one that I -barely- stayed ahead of, is JC's VLX1800. I mean by
only a headlight, heh heh.
KB just got his Harley out of the shop, with its bigger heads, bigger
pistons, and carbs, and so 4th, update, called SE Stage 3.
It is suppose to increase the HP to around 98.
|
He got ripped off.
98 HP can be achieved with simple bolt-on parts.
Stage three motors need more than that and many easily achieve over 120
streetable HP.
He should get his money back...
|
I did the Stage 3 95 inch on the Ultra.
The mechanic said it would be about 100hp but we haven't dyno'd it.
According to the "bible" (catalogue) the 95 inch stage 3 should be
poshing about 115 hp with a carb and SE-257 cam. The fi model should
be in the ballpark. Mine has the SE-211 cam which is better for a
tourer and boosts torque as much as hp.
The 95 inch stage 2 only gets about 75 hp with 203 cams.
Too many variables to say what he should get with that set up.
Too many holes in the description too.
|
I guess that's why I don't let dealers touch my bike.
My own bike is still a stock 88 inch with stock cams, Cycle Shack
pipes, open air cleaner and about an hour on the dyno to figure out
what jets worked best for optimum fuel economy. I have almost 76 HP 84
TQ. Tuning was done for free[*] on the local vocational school's dyno
as part of their "Small Engine"
[*]I did pay for parts.

We had this Memorial Day Weekend trip planned with our wives, to go to
Hot Springs Arkansas.
We were on our way, about 25 miles out on HWY 67 north, when I rode up
to see if he was ready to test his new ''rig''.
In the past, he never could out drag me, up to 85-90, on his Harley.
When he had a 1100 Shadow, he couldnt out run me on it either.
We stop on the lonely Arkansas Highway.
(-Now, remember we have our wives aboard, and they, are, the same size
(heh heh-)
We goose 'em, & both jump out pretty even for maybe 200 yards, but when
I hit ''3rd'', I leave him atleast 3 bike lengths, but shut 'er down at
90. I don't like the top end.
We do it again for fairness, this time I don't cut 'em any slack, I
redline each gear, and git' 'em a lttle quicker.
~When we pull over KB says. =91=91I feel pretty good about it, I stayed
with you much closer than I use to''! He continued, and said'' The
upgrade was worth it, no complaints''. He did mumble, =91=91Bjay, you
still have the ''baddest Bike in the family''. =92=92
BTW-FYI, the SE stage 3, cost $4,000.
Also, BTW, we had a nice, fun trip, up to Hot Springs. Really had a good
time, rode about 350 round trip. regards, Bjay
