Catalytic converters
|
I hear the 2007 Harleys will be equiped with catalytic converters... This
can't be a good thing!
|
and and and, why did they put the 6th gear on dynas, why not the tourers?
Makes no sense.
Kel -always trying for 6th
|
I asked a dealer about this. They said 6th gear was coming to the other
lines (no particular order) but Dyna sales had been flat and they needed
something to jump start them.

Many of the 2006 bikes have cats this year nationwide. I think they were
installed on CA bikes a year or two ago.
It's not a good thing.
|
They've been on H-D's a whole lot longer than that, Bob.
My Y2K FLHTC has (okay, HAD) dual CAT's on it and IIRC, CAT's first
made their appearence on H-D's in........... hmmm, the mid 90's
maybe???
Okay, I CRS including the first year for CAT's on a Harley, but I know
my Y2K is far from the first year.
FWIW, CAT's themselves aren't all that restrictive contrary to what
many folks think. Well, they're not all that restrictive compared to a
OEM non-CAT muffler.
Sure, they're power robbers compared to a nice performance exhaust
system but so are stock mufflers.
BTW, Harley is supposed to be coming out with high flow CAT converters
so they can sell "street legal" performance exhaust systems.
Like someone else said, go drive a new Corvette (or Porshe, or Ferrari,
or ad nausem).
And while I got yer ear, were you the one that pointed me to a Indy
bike shop in the Springs? I can't remember the name/address of the
shop. Or was it halfadon that mentioned the shop.
Which Harley dealer do you patronize, if ya don't mind me asking.
I haven't been to the Nevada store yet, just the Powers store. And that
was way back in 2000 or 2001/2 when they were in the little store
upstairs. Just curious what the locals think about the two stores.

WHy?
Harley is now using a really cool exhaust system on the baggers, it
has a valve that opens for more flow at higher RPM, so do you really
think a CAt converter will harm your power that much? it won't unless
of course your trying to get every ounce of power possible from a
V-Twin, then I assume you are stroking the thing, boring it out and
very radical cams, much higher compression and your exhaust stem is
strictly set up for racing. IOW open TUNED drag pipes
that like saying a charcoal canister is a bad thing..........

Depends on whether the implementation is done correctly, or not.

Why would an fxrguy care?
|
Why would a 2006 guy care?
|
I think I see where this thread is going, but
who cares?
And, why would they care?
|
Who's they?
|
No, Who's on first.
|
I thought Hu went back to China.

On a slow boat.

Ha!

Huh?

Try web-search. That'll 'splain things, Lucy.

Anybody ever suggest that you might be a mite too literal minded at times?

Catalytic convertors have been used on motorcycles for some time.
|
Yep. The '06 bikes I'm working on now (non Harleys) have the catalytic
material in the pipes themselves before the mufflers. That way you can
change the mufflers to louder ones without affecting the emissions
aspect too much.
