Going for a ride today

I'm buying.
After the last few days of rain I am going to head out from Beaver
Dam, WI West towards Portage, Baraboo and the Dells. Figure I'll
leave around 12:00/30. If anyone wants to meet up for IRL e-mail me
and I'll give ya my phone #.

I plan on a slow ride with stops at whatever catches my eye.

Well no one took me up on a ride today so I left about 12:15 and
Dayum, you've got me feelin' guilty all the way out here in AZ.

headed west out of Beaver Dam on 33 thru Fox Lake. As I was getting
gas in Fox Lake a group of Harley riders went past. Never did see
them again. Kept going west on 33 to Portage. Stopped at a
Maybe you should think about making it to one of the fine IRLs around
this here VB&G. Better than H.O.G.!

histerical marker and took a picture. Turned off at the sign for the
Surgeons Quarters and rode next to the Portage Canal for just under a
mile. Took a few pic's and went back to 33. Headed through Portage
behind the slowest moving 5th wheel being towed by an old pickup.
Couldn't get around until we hit the double lane overpass for I39,
Stopped at the next Histerical Marker for the South pass in the
Baraboo Hills. Took a picture with the scooter in the foreground.
OK, yer related to Dave S., aren't ya?

There are lots of hills and twisty roads over that way. Continued
towards Baraboo and stopped off to check out the Mirror Lake State
Park...Never did get to see any of the lake but the campground looks
good. Nice separation between sites. Course this time of year there
were only 3 or 4 campers.

Rode on into Baraboo and headed on 12 into the Dells. It was nice to
ride through the dells without much traffic as it is usually bumper to
bumper. I stopped for gas and when I pulled out on the side road
there was a Harley at the stop sign. The guy was fixing his hair! He
went at it 4 times before I revved it and blew the horn at him. I
guess his jacket with poser on it was at the cleaners. Of course he
then proceeded to cut in and out of traffic showing everyone he could
cut them off. He came very close to getting creamed. Oh well.

I was hoping to see some sale signs for leather goods in the Dells.
Lots of season ending sales on moccasins but I didn't see any for
leather. I could use a pair of pants or chaps.

On the way home I took 16 out of the Dells to Portage I stopped at
several waysides to remove excess fluids and as I pulled out of one I
was behind another Harley. I pulled up about 50/75' behind on the
right of him. He was speeding up and slowing down 55 to 70 or so and
I stayed with him until I decided to pass. He then sped up and after
105 I let him go. It was kind of funny as he downshifted to
accelerate and I just gave it throttle. He pulled a little ahead and
then I just stuck with him. He slowed down and I just took up the
same position I had until he turned just outside Portage off 16.
Downtown Portage is like a lot of small towns in this area filled with
many small specialty shops. None of those interest me so I picked up
33 for the rest of the way home.

A little cool for a ride but sunny and NO RAIN!!! All in all a
boring ride if I do say so myself.

If ya haven't gotten a beverage by now get up and get one on me.
Thanks for the super-sized quadruple-shot mocha frap that the wife just
got for me. (I gave up caffeine cuz it made me too hyper--wonder if that
was some kind of a hint? I'll be up all night, that's for sure.)

Here is a quick question as it has been many years since I was riding
regularly. I never pull up next to another biker unless I am waved
up. Does this still hold as the proper way to do things? I don't do
it when moving or at lights/stop signs. What do ya say?
Assuming it's not some sort of bike event on Main St., I don't like
strangers pulling along side me when stopped (let alone while moving).
Ergo, I don't do it to others. When riding with friends or in a group,
yes, I will of do it.
