Automatic bikes
|
A friend of mine is female , 60 and has arthritis in her hands but for some
reason wants to get back into bikes.
A new FJR1300A is out of her price league so what auto bikes are there?
There was the Guzzi (Convert?) and the CB400A but you never see those around
|
The Guzzi has rather strong throttle return springs, probably too strong for
60 year old arthritic hands. Whatever she gets, budget for a set of heated
grips as well.

anymore.

Honda did an auto version of the SOHC CB750 but it's very rare and was
never officially imported into the UK.
Don't knock the super-scooters: some of them are surprisingly good.
|
Scooters are out of the question , even those 500cc things you see around
these days - I'm sure she'd rather use her bus pass.....
|
If you must then I think the Guzzi Convert would be better than the two
Honda attempts. Quite a nice bike in its way.
An NABD inspired workaround would be the other option.

There was a Honda 750 Auto as well.
Basically, that's your lot. What about some sort of push-button clutch
actuator on a normal bike? Or a trike with an auto-box?

If she is mainly planning to use it for short journies, round town etc she
might want to consider a Gilera DNA 125. Motorcyle looks and scooter
mechanicals with a top speed of 70mph plus. Apart from the Honda, Yamaha
and Suzuki large capacity scooters there is also the Gilera Nexus 500. Its
has scooter-motorcycle hybrid appearance and 100mph plus top speed. Piaggio
X9 500 is another option - more obviously a scooter but auto and quite

The DNA 180 is a tad faster.

Yep - I forgot about them.

quick.

She could try having a standard bike modified. Have a look at the "Easy

They're a bit soul-less but surprisingly good. I'd have thought it would
tick
a lot of boxes for her, despite being a scooter. Or she can stay on the bus.

Burgmann ?
More impressive still than the figures, the technological vice to which Suzuki
is delivered to equip its top-of-the-range scooter. The innovation is the
revolutionary transmission. It is possible to choose between two types of
operation: the Normal mode privileges fluidity with a continuous variator and
the Power mode offers more muscular recoveries. In all cases, the clutch is
automatic. The engine is an example of silence, regularity and clean burning
