Heated grips
|
I intent fitting heated grips to my GS500 to survive early morning rides in
the Canberra winter. What makes have others used and what were the
advantages and disadvantages of them?
|
I've got the Guzzi ones, but it's a bit warm for them at the moment.
You need three heat settings.

Can strongly recommend Oxford heated grips, very neat after fitting (for
aftermarket grips) and continuously variable heat adjustment. More heat
available than you will _ever_ need at the high settings.

Wot he said.
Maggie and I have them on our bikes and they are excellent.

Downside? Well they are more expensive than some other kits.

VSM grip heaters
$50 or so. Sometimes available at local bike ship.
Pros: Cheap, simple to fit, cheap, effective, cheap, use any grip you
like including OEM because it's an element which goes underneath the
grip. Oh, and they're cheap.
Cons: Switch can be a little bit ugly, you need to work out a mount
yourself, left grip colder than right when element is applied directly
to handlebar (but this may be a con for other heated grips too)
leading to too hot right hand and/or too cold left hand. Still a vast
improvment on no heated grips.
