The Quest for a Brit thumper

Every time I see a movie or a TV show such as _Foyle's War_ where
a character rides a British single cyl motorcycle I get a yearning
for one of my own.

The latest occasion was watching _To Serve Them All My Days_, where
David Powlett-Jones borrows a sidecar rig from another teacher.
(It's an early model, as the year is around 1919.)

Here are a few bikes advertised recently here (Vancouver, BC Canada):

'56 Royal Enfield 350 Cdn$3300
Thats about right (1600) in the UK, maybe a little dear for a private
sale, but definitely would be a dealer price.
=A31600. Seems pricey.

'95 Royal Enfield (India) Bullet 500 Cdn$4400 <--- might take $4000?
=A32150. You must be out of your mind.
Agreed, £1000 max here, in exc. cond.

'69 BSA Starfire 250 Cdn$2000
A grand. Utterly horrible bike.
It appears that you seem to be losing 2-0 to france ATM
Not so sure about that.I had one and it was great.Once the engine was
sorted with new valves etc after 15 years of abuse, it was a pleasure to
ride.Good handling solid frame, engine that did have a bit of poke
(think CB250RS level), but the big downside was vibration - it gave a
bad tingling through the bars at certain revs.£1000 is about right here
now, and most parts are still available, with a good supply of updated
parts to make them better.
Alan.

Buy a Yamaha SR500 instead.
*DINGLY DINGLY DING*

Cracking bike, with all the essential cachet of a classic big single
with none of the reliability headaches that come with old brit stuff.
