WASHINGTON (AP) - The Postal Service recently, with great fanfare,
issued a new set of stamps depicting motorcycles. Collectors who buy
copies issued on the first day the stamps are available can get them
with a special commemorative postmark. Unfortunately, the colorful
postmark spells it "motorcyle."
|
Oh, I don't know, I kinda like "motorcyle."
|
Yea well if you don't you can to order the article with the incorrect
spelling (Just include a note asking for the incorrect version.)
|
"Beertender, a round for the house and Diet Barqs all night for Greasy,
please. I'm buying."
|
A little early to be hitting the hard stuff, eh?
|
I don't even want to imagine what that'd do to my kindeys...

Having discovered this, the post office announced Friday that new
orders for first-day envelopes will have a corrected postmark.
Unless the buyer wants it spelled wrong. In that case they can still
order the version with the incorrect postmark. Just include a note
asking for the incorrect version.
Any collectors who already have misspelled versions can trade them for
the corrected version by sending them to INFORMATION FULFILLMENT, DEPT
6270, US POSTAL SERVICE, PO BOX 219424, KANSAS CITY, MO, 64121-9424.

I wonder if the misspelled versions will become more valuable over time.
|
How's PA treating you, Mike?
I've never been a stamp collector, but I'd think the variation or
misspelled version would be more valuable. Otoh, if they printed a
bajillion (wait, should make that a Brazillion?) of the correctly
spelled version and an equal amount of the "motorcyle" version that
neither would be rare and therefore collectable. Dunno.
Years ago, some people were going nutso over a comic book where they
killed Superman. What was, iirc, a comic with a cover price of $2.25
was selling for $50! One woman was interviewed and said something about
the comic eventually paying for her daughter's college education.
Wrong. DC brought Superman back to life (big surprise), they also
printed that aforementioned brazillion issues, and, afaik, the book's
in the 50-cent bin at most comic book shops.
Hmm. Motorcycle content? Not much. I'll try to make up for it with a
collector's edition of a virtual VB&G ale:
"Beertender, a round for the house of the genuine and official,
highly-collectable, Virtual Bar & Grill Brand ale, please. I'm
mortgaging my virtual mansion to pay for it. May as well pour it in
those VB&G steins, the ones with the numbered and limited certificates
of authenticity, please."
