WSB regs again
|
The war of words is hotting up. Batta is threatening to withdraw the
Suzuki squad if Ducati are allowed 1200cc. And take him and Biaggi to
MotoGP. Hmmm? Satellite Suzuki team?
|
Typical spin. I remember when the AMA equalled weight between twins
and fours mid-1994 and Ferracci threatened to pull his team - which
would have cost him and Coraser that championship. This could also be
cover for a GP move already being contemplated, and it would be great
to see a satellite Suzuki team now that they finally have decent
equipment. Doesn't mean Suzuki will abandon WSB, though, rather it may
just be more at arm's length with another team.
|
A couple of the other teams are calling for much higher production
limits (like 1500) to stop Ducati making homologation specials. They
have a point. Ducati doing their usual run of 150 (Bayliss replicas)
1198R is perhaps a step too far.
|
Yeah, homologation is the key, and no way Ducati should get any break
there, they all should be running street-based stuff. But that's where
WSB is most likely to reveal its bias...
|
And note that a 1098 won the Superstocks race at Donington. So a pipe,
engine management tweaks and rearsets and the 1098 is competitive with
this year's Suzukis and Yamahas. It was running a close third when the
front two had each other off at the Melbourne hairpin.
|
Now that's interesting, given that a Ducati weakness has more been low-
mods SS stuff, probably weight part of that. Of course I don't know
the WSStock rules, or who the riders are or anything else. What that
suggests is the new rules should cap displacement at 1100cc, which is
the current bike, and see how that goes. If it looks unbalanced, then
they can grant freedom to overbore up to 1200cc. Not sure what
Ducati's reaction to that would be.

|
They prolly will get it in WSB sooner, or later, here might be a different
story, but it's the AMA, so....
