New Ducati 1098

Apparently...

All models have a 1099cc engine, but are designated 1098 (for fear of
association with the IRS 1099 tax form - REALLY!).
And they'll all sit in dealer's showrooms getting older and older, just
like the last incarnaton did.
A new designer wanted to put his mark on the marque, like BMW with the
5/7 series. Marketing disaster. All Ducati had to do was stick with the
basic look/format, make it 20kg lighter and 150bhp rear wheel, Ohlins
front/rear including the steering damper.
1098 engine?

Are they re-making Morris Minor A Series lumps for this new model?
MG 1100 if you don't mind!
ITYF the 1098cc unit was fitted to the Morris before it was bunged in an MG.
About 5 years before the 1100 series saw the light of day IIRC.
That would be 998cc then..
948cc for the Minor actually. The 998cc engine was used in the Mini.
Whats 40cc between friends eh?
4/5ths of 50cc?

I remember being amused by some old advert for it where it is descibed
as a 'powerful modern engine producing more than 27bhp'!

I suspect it was never powerful or modern..

Three Models-
$14,995 - 1098 Base: 160hp/80+tq
$19,995 - 1098S: adds carbon bits and Ohlins suspension pieces
$24,995 - 1098 Tri-Colore: adds race exhaust in the crate,
red/white/green
three-color paint
(Pricing is preliminary and may change slightly)
$5K for a race exhaust and a paint job - bargain!
It's all about almost religious brand loyalty, isn't it? If Ducati were
to stick badges on a turd there might well be a market for it.
that's the Multistrada, isn't it?

apparently not.
The Japs have been doing that for years...
I expect it will be the equivalent of the R version -
sand cast cases, Ti con-rods, light-weight pistons,
that kind of thing.

Might all be bollocks of course, so we'll wait and see.
And even with GBP/USD rate at 1.90, I suspect the UK pricing
will be:

=A314,995 - 1098 Base: 160hp/80+tq
=A319,995 - 1098S: adds carbon bits and Ohlins suspension pieces
=A324,995 - 1098 Tri-Colore: adds race exhaust in the crate,
Funny, I thought the same thing!

Styling somewhat similar to Desmosedici RR, but with longer, sharper
front fairing and featuring dual headlights; New dash design;
Single-sided
swingarm; Dual oval underseat exhaust; Weight reduction of 37.5 pounds;
Monoblock radial-caliper brakes w/330mm discs.

All 1098 models will come configurable as mono and biposto. Base model
outperforms 999R!!

Ducati will NOT campaign the new bike for the coming AMA season;
instead
skipping a year for potential rule changes.

Official debut will be at Milan in November, with deliveries expected
to
begin in February.
