Gotta Another Moab Meet In The Works
So it looks like a few of us are gonna do the Moab thing again next
spring.
The dates are June 20th to June 23rd and it will be in conjunction
Fat boy wannabe circle rider's reservations made.
with an ISRA meet.
SHSSSSH! It's supposed to be a SECRET. :)
Well we need to make sure Keith hears about it.
BTW, you give me an idea. I know you like to avoid Interstates, I could
probably ruin any schedule you had in mind with a route I have in mind. All
paved. And snow free in late June :). One of which includes another
National Park.
BTW, the dualsport guys gave me some fantastic ideas and pointers on
custom maps. I wanted to customize some topo/street maps with routes
and geological details of interest for the blog site and the book. They
pointed me to a site that enables that and it is amazing.
Is there some reason you don't want to post a link here?
These things will be very handy, GPS or not. One of the guys laminates
his so he can mark routes and details with a highlighter which then
rubs off, and they are reusable. For these guys who ride off road, they
are invaluable. But they can also be of use to us.
I'll post details on the AR forum. We could set up a map exchange site
on the web :)
Really, imagine that laminating a topo-map OR
better yet using acetate on it and some alcohol
wipe pens to mark obstacles, easy fording spots,
suspected places for LEO's to hide and such. Been
doing that since 84'. Never mentioned it because I
thought everyone else was doing it...being as I
use a mostly holistic travel planning style these
marks often become as pointless as a mans nipples.
So what say Keith, care to join us on the ride to Moab. I am thinking
I can hook up with you and Stephen (How about it Stephen?) on my way
to Salt Lake to meet Bryan and Lyle.
Sadly this summer is out a good part of next
summer also...school!
Ah the sacrifices we make for higher education.
Yep, I'll be qualified to make a starving when
done.
Careful you don't get too edumacated, cuz if you do I won't be able to
understand the other half of your posts.
*MAYBE*... June is an awful long way away right now... At the very least
we can meet up for a while, anyhow...
Hell, I'm all for it. Getting vacation time off might be a problem,
however... Gotta pay for my new truck somehow. :)
Later,
TexasShadow
Well I am already looking forward to that route, cuz the last one was
so much fun. ;-)
Here are a few pictures from last fall CanyonRun gig.
So mark it down for next June. All are welcome.
I'll be there for both: June and Sept. I already have two weeks marked
off in Sept and think I can do one week in June. The routes in June
will be more slab and faster, saving the longway routes/camp/hike
adventures for Sept when it's cooler. Spending time in CO on the way
there in Sept and down SW into AZ and NM on the way back. I want to see
Bryce Canyon.
A few folks from Texas are interested in one or the other, depending on
their schedules. But it looks like there may be riders for both. I'd
welcome company for June, but Sept is my solo ride; me and Whee.
We'd better think about booking cabin for June soon.
I'll book the Farmhouse for June. From the response so far we may need
the M4 too.
:) I like the M4; its quaint and cozy.
CanyonRuns 2007 1 & 2........now that rocks :D
Yeah, so far I have Osoyoos at the end of May, Moab in June, another
Cruise In in Kamloops in Aug and the return to Moab in Sept.
After those I should have about ten days of holiday time left. Where
can I go?
The Shenandoah Valley is nice that time of year.
There's always MAMBM with the folks from the bar across the street.
Ahh, I must have a vision problem cuz I just don't see myself crossing
the Prairies two years in a row. Maybe next year.
That said, it does look like a nice area. What is Skyline Drive like
as a riding road?
If you don't lose it, save it for Alaska in 2008?
If I haven't 'retired' by then, I'm taking a month off to ride Alaska
and the Pacific NW. I'd welcome your company on an Alaskan adventure.
I *gotta* quit hanging around with you folks. You're mindreaders and
will cost me my marriage yet, not to mention ALL my vacation time.
I'm bad enough left to my own plotting, but y'all are planning
very tasty rides.
:) Alaska........ taste it and roll it around your tongue a bit.
Land of the Midnight Sun......mountains....ocean, whales, caribou,
salmon, elk, bears.....
Oh My.
I've been there, but not on a bike. Flew in for three weeks of fun
with the Air Farce at Anchorage in June of '85. I look forward to the
personal challenge of the Alcan highway. I'd just have to swing thru
Calgary and arm wrestle Don to come along. Like it would take that
much to get him back on Beluga.
Get up to Denali NP. McKinley in the moonlight is awesome with the
Northern Lights. Turnabout is fair play too. I've been face to
shoulder with moose, seen grizzly bears from the car and fished for
salmon in Cook's Inlet. You could pick a worse destination! I'd love
to do the ride to Barrow, tho.
Not sure about Barrow, but Denali is a must.
I'll pass on the Big G bears, though. :O
No road to Barrow. You could take the Dalton to the edge of Prudue Bay but it's
a one way road so you have to turn around and ride back.
Barrow? Do they even have roads that are not made of ice that far
North?
Well Barrow is not a likely destination for this rider, but I am game
for a less ambitious ride to Alaska.
08 work for you?
You know what it is like Tom. It's winter. It's what we do.
Too many places, too many roads to ride and so few holidays.
I still want to do the Alaska Marine Highway. Maybe 08 works.
Alaska for 2008 is my plan, and I'm already planning. Pick up 2007
"Milepost" at your bookstore when it comes out (annually revised).
Robert up in Alaska can help us plan and be our guide (and grill chef).
And we're doing an article on it to boot.
He's still riding his V-strom up there with studded tires :)
I think you and I would have a fun time up there. The ferry should be
awesome. But I'm considering shipping Whee up to Vacouver or Seattle,
WA, (maybe even Portland) and flying in, then riding back down through
WA, OR and northern CA on the way back.
I'll post more details as plans get firmed up.
I think you better count me in on this one. I'm planning another
17-day western trip for 2007; and this one is most likely to be solo
rather than with George and his spouse. I was thinking more along the
lines of July or August, but there's really no reason it can't coincide
with your shindig.
Great news Tim.
I haven't heard from Chris in a while. I guess since he bought that
sport tourer he doesn't want to hang around with cruisers and baggers
anymore, but he was planning on taking in the Sept. Moab meet and he
might want to do this ride instead. If he does you guys ought to hook
up for the ride.
Are you going to be there ?
