Cat!
|
Arrrgh! She just bought a brand new 2007 Buell Blast, with a credit card
"check".
|
Not very clever. In the UK, there are all sorts of consumer protection
laws relating to CCs, but (crucially) they don't cover CC cheques. And
the interest rate is horrendous on CC cheques and (I think) it starts
ticking from the date of purchase.
|
The checks the credit card companies send me have interest rates *much*
lower than any bank loan I could get (and I can get some pretty cheap bank
loans)... We're talkin' 0.99% - 4%...
|
No idea what the laws are in the US, of course, but....
....why didn't she just use the CC itself?
|
And easy to pick up... :-P
|
Are you guys implying she should dump Thumper and find a new boy
friend?
|
No, just that she is likely to park the bike on its side once in a
while.
|
|
|
|
|
At least she bought another bike and didn't just sell the Sporty outright
and quit riding.
Ya gotta look at the bright side.

The Blast is a nice size for a smaller person and it actually has adequate
power to go 90 or 100
mph.
I was chilling on the 118 freeway at about 85mph, taking an alternate route
to the Rock Store, when I noticed that I was being overtaken by a guy on a
Blast. He was riding at least 90 mph, and I just watched as he receded into
the distance. I didn't want to attract CHP attention to myself by "teaching
him a lesson".
|
Mulholland Hwy (and other nearby roads) is a great ride, but what is the
attraction of the Rock Store? I've heard that the food is terrible. Other
than that, what is the deal?
|
I could have easily passed him at over 150 mph, if I'd felt it even mattered.
Even though cars may be going the same speed, the motorcycle will be the one
that gets pulled over.
A Sportster riding lady complained that she got stopped for riding 90 mph on
the 118 headed towards San Fernando, after months of law enforcement absence.
|
What town do you live in? I live in Tujunga.
|
Until recently, I lived in Hollyweird. Then I moved to Merle Haggard country.
Tulare dust in a farm boy's nose
Wondering where the freight train goes
Standin' in the field by the railroad track
Cursin' this strap on my cotton sack...

She rarely rides as it is and now says the 883L Sportster, is "too big".
I find myself defenseless. If I complained I think I'd feel like hypocrite.
Oh, I turned 30,000 miles on my 2004 RK, yesterday. I have almost 10K on the
2006 GT. 1050 on the 2007 Deuce and almost 1K on the 2006 Buell.
Cat has about 1000 miles on her '05 Sportster.
|
I, for one, like the look of the Buell's. I think a V-twin on a sport
bike is a good idea (or parallel twin as on that one I believe). the
Blast isn't a super fast bike when compared to other sport bikes, so
if she had to pick one, why not that one?
|
The Blast! is a single, it's a Sportster engine with the rear jug
missing.
|
Cat's only got one jug ????
|
|
|
The Blast is not a sportbike. As a matter of fact Buell does not
refer to their bikes as sportbikes.
They call them "sportfighters" or "streetfighters" of somesuch
nonsense.
But yes, v-twins do make good sportbikes, see Ducati, SV650.
But I agree with Mark, she should have bought a Ninja 250. But then
she would fit in with the harley fashion crowd.
|
No, the Harley fashion crowd doesn't accept Buells. I went to our local HOG
Chapter meeting, on my Buell, and was generally sneered at, and ignored.
Some Neanderthal tried to pick up on Cat, saying that I didn't know how to
ride ('cause I was on a Buell).
Did you know the cavemen, on the Geico commercials, all ride Harleys?

I coulda made ya a good deal on a low mileage 2000 model. Is it too late
to take it back? For you, $800, cause i like your warped sense of humor.
A good servicing, and a new back tire (be prepared to buy lots of back
tires), and maybe a battery now, and it'ld be good to go. Having heard
rumors of your style of dress, i must, however, insist that you wear at
least knee length shorts when you come to pick it up.
About the best I can say about the bike is it handles well. Other than
that, it is what it is, a beginner's bike. One of those "fun til your
friends see ya" kinda things.
|
|
Ah, maybe she's giving you an illustrated example of you're unbridled
passion for motorcycles.
From what you said in the past I think the Sportster's handling might not
have been right for her. Give her a hug for trying to find a bike that
suits her and sell the Sportster.
