Hmmm... '97, that's pre-"thunderstorm" motor. So it's a bit down on
HP(75HP at the wheel, approximately).
Now, I bought a 1998 S3T in '03 for $4250. Came with the Buell "race
kit"(pipe, muffler, K&N, and ignition). factory Hard bags, Extra brand
new shock, extra set of track tires(Dunlop 208GPs). The bike was
IMMACULATE. The '98 S3s came with the "thunderstorm" motor. Which is
stock, about 90HP at the wheel. With the race kit, it's close to 100HP
at the wheel, and about 85 LB/FT torque.
That M2 has pretty similar torque figures, just down on HP. The M2
doesn't have inverted forks. But they are fully adjustable iirc.
The one good thing, it will return ya excellent mileage. Even with the
"race kit" and big jets in the carb, it has returned me up to 61MPG on
the HWY. Not too shabby for 100HP bike.
24K miles?, I'd say about $3500-$4000 tops.
Things to watch out for:
Stator... Some go for 100K + miles. Some seem to go around 25K to 35K.
There seems to be no in-between :) Also another easy fix. And the
stators are about $85.
Rocker box gaskets(valve covers). Check for seeping. Older Buell motors
came with paper gaskets that are prone to failure. But a VERY easy, 1 to
2 hour fix.
