Buell's

I am thinking of buying one, an XB12S to be precise, I haven't read any
thing about them here, does any one have one and can give me any useful
guidance or advice?
I think Petel used to have one.

IIRC, the advice was to use lots of shakeproof washers, and make sure
you always carry spare nuts and bolts and appropriate spanners.
Petel had (has?) one of the early ones that were a lot more Sportster
like than the XB12 bikes.

I read the reviews of the 12R and 12S and expected a ride like on my
weapon of muff disruption, but in comparison they are as smooth as silk;
more than acceptable for anyone used to riding a twin.

Other than "don't but one"
Just do it!

The most smiles per mile around town i ever had.
NZ rider's view of the XB12X
Oh yes, it should have been "Buells" not " Buell's". Lucky I slipped
that past the Radio 4 listeners !
I test rode an S1 several years ago when the local Harley emporium had
an open day. It was the only time I've ever considered buying a
brand-new bike.

Last year I so very nearly bought one, but the tales of self-destruct
engines on the older ones (which is what I would have bought) put me
off, sadly. At least one tale of a gearbox that died and one of an
alternator falling apart.

Some cycle bits can work loose apparently, but it's nothing a bit of
threadlock wouldn't cure. The one I rode shuddered gently on the
sidestand but was wonderfully smooth on the road.
Thread lock, and nyloc nut everything.
They're not that bad, actually.
Not that bad? I remember Petel bringing his to the Black Horse one
*oSM; it was idling in the car^Wbike park, and was *blurred*. It was
impossible for the eye to make out any sharp detail, as if looking at
it through the wrong glasses. He carried a bag of spare nuts and
Erm, this was after you'd necked six pints, though.
I'd like to argue, but you may have a point.

bolts. Need I say more?
Character.

The chassis vibration all but disappears under way, though I suspect
that the engine would still be a bit blurry if viewed by a static
observer.

I'm Dan and I quite fancy a Buell.

Good for you. There's strength in numbers.
I've got a test ride booked at Stratstone East London. Behind
Walthamstow dog track next Sunday.
I'll report back.
Anyone want a nice 1200 Bandit?
AOL. An X1 in yellow please.

But I can't have that and the CCM R30. Decisions, decisions ...
Certainly don't but one! you could get a reputation;o)

Any HD dealership will let you take one for a spin. Make sure you take your
Driving License along though.
