Now this...
|
would be an interesting motorcycle road to traverse.
It kind of reminds me of "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid"
You'll need PowerPoint for this
|
Thanks Thumper, that was real satisfying. I've
|
Now there is one road I will never ride, drive, bicycle or walk.
|
never been so satisfied in my life...EVER. I
believe I know WHERE I want to go in SA now.
|
Going to convert that Lead Wing into an adventure tourer?
|
|
|
I'd need 4 really really big guys to FORCE me to click on any
of your links ......
I'll wait for Steve's review, thank you very much.
|
Seems safe enough. I downloaded and scanned it, and opened it with OO.o
Slide 6 is the scary one!
|
The current DS tires fit my Old Wing. 8^) But no I
think something narrower is in order...say maybe a
DR650?
|
Yeah, something more along the lines of a motorized mountain goat.
I'd probably go with the KLR650 for the big tank.
My personal favourite is the BMW F650GS but it's too pretty and too
expensive.
|
I considered it and immediately discounted it. Not
due to price though! No because no REAL DP bike
comes with ABS... Anyway a bike ridden in places
like that needs a MINIMUM of electrical doohickeys
to go bad. Heck a trip like that I'd NOT take GPS,
rather I'd have GOOD maps.
|
The ABS is switchable at least.
Good for the wet pavement as well as the dirt.
Some places even the maps are skatchy. :-)

BAH! It's all fun! That it was in PP was the scary
part...I HATE PP!
|
|
|
|
Luckily for me, OpenOffice.org works fine, too. Great road, but I
know I'd spend too long stuck behind one of those trucks -- kind of
like similar roads here in Northern California. Southern, too, I
suppose...

Looks like a good time... You spoze any of the "Dragon Slayers" would dare
ride that road? :)
|
|
Since I don't have PP at home and, unlike most of the slackers here, I
don't read Reeky at work, can you give me a hint where we are on this
road?
|
Cool! A buddy of mine did a trip this year in southern Chile.
Something like a Rob Beach tour - flew down, picked up a BMWGS and
rode to Ushuaia. Says it was incredible. With so many hassles in so
many 3rd world places for Americans these days, Latin America has
become a good destination.
|
|
Try openoffice.org. In the meantime, it looks like the Andes. Steep
slopes, slippery surfaces, narrow road, and lots of trucks and busses.
|
hmm. I was there in '99-00', riding those buses. One of the more
impressive roads was the one between the coast and the Cordillera
Blanca/Huaraz in Peru. Incredible country - something like 50 peaks
over 6000 meters high. Steep switchbacks and gutsy drivers.
Interesting buses, too. There are luxury buses with sleeper service,
waiters, meal service and videos. In southern Peru, the road from
Arequipa to Cuzco goes over some very high plateaus. It's only 15
degrees from the equator, but there are fields of ice and snow in a
desolate lunar landscape, complete with wild llamas and exotic
pelicans.
Now I really have to download the program to see what Thumper's
|
You have to wonder how many vehciles go over the edge each
year.

talking about. (Actually, I realized I _do_ have PowerPoint, but it's
version 4.0, which is so archaic it doesn't run any new files.)
